People Who Won't Let You Off The Phone?

"Okay, well, I know you're busy so I won't keep you on the phone any longer. 'Bye." click.

Seriously. Turn it back on her, as if you're doing her a favor - but as others advise, whatever method you choose, don't let her keep talking.

Let her have a nice big chat to her son, your hubby;)

I have a big chat with my mum every afternoon and use this time to chop up veggies for dinner or make a cake etc. I use speaker phone and by the time mum and I have solved the world's problems dinner is sitting on the bench ready to be cooked.

My only other piece of advice is to try and ring her at a time that suits you, she sounds a little lonely.

Cheers

Our phones are set to ring 4 times, then the machine picks up.

in my case the A.M. bites me in the behind.

My neighbor's daughters babysit a little girl, they weren't available and they suggested I could fill in. I know the little girl, she's come over a few times to play games with my kids and the neighbor's daughter. Anyways, first time I'm meeting the dad, my mom calls. I see it's her, tell him politely it's my mom, if I answer I'll never get her off the phone, I'll let the A.M. pick up. She proceeds to leave a 5 minute message about her trip to the psychic and what all this lady told her and about what her dead husband thinks of how she handled his death with his family. Yeah, great first impression. :lmao:

Lesson learned, I now pick up and say I cant' talk now.

All in one breath - with absolutely NO pausing at all:

"Okay I really have to go now I'll call you back later when I can chat bye" - CLICK..:thumbsup2

I have a friend who just keeps talking so much I find it hard to even get a word in. I've tried to say I have to go, but sometimes it takes a few times before she takes a long enough pause for me to say anything.

I am that person. :rolleyes1

When friends and family absolutely have to get off the phone with me, they do what Cathryn said. Fast, strong, and loud if I'm not stopping. Works!

And then I spend the next half hour with my face all red from how embarrassed I am that I did that to someone who had been trying to get off the phone. Again.

In the defense of those of us who do it...we like talking to you, like amusing you, like bouncing things off of you, and are sad to end the convo.

Oh I had an uncle like that - you couldn't even get an "uh huh" in - so we would just lay the phone down and walk away.. Pick it up an hour later (no exaggeration) and he would still be yammering away.. He's the sole reason that I purchased my very first answering machine..:rotfl:

Same reason why I love my caller ID. If I'm busy or just not in the mood to chat for an hour I just don't answer :thumbsup2

This was funny... thanks for making me laugh a bit today! I have been without computer for a few days, but I like the idea of putting it on her... "I know YOU are busy..."

I am dreading calling her today, but I have to to find out what she is bringing to our Christmas Eve dinner that she invited herself over our house for. Ugh.
