People Smoking in Non-Smoking Areas

Has anyone ever seen a cast member ask someone to put out a cigarette? I don't smoke but those that smoke where ever they want may cause WDW to issue a non-smoking policy throughout the park, don't you think?

I have NEVER seen a CM ask anyone to put out a ciggarette, but I do know that some people just don't know that there are smoking areas.
Having asthma, I try to avoid smoke-filled areas as much as possible (not to mention the smell is utterly disgusting, and I was formerly a member of Truth, so I'm kind of anti-smoking anyways!). Hopefully they will start enforcing this rule a little better. The worst is when people smoke on lines, it's just plain rude.

I have once, and the cm told the person that there are smoking areas and said she would show them the nearest one. And she and the couple walked over the place in LS behind the Christmas store. But that was the only time, most of the time they just walk by a person smoking and don't say a word

i've never seen a cm ask them to smoke where they're supposed to, but I sure wish they would. I know several people who have severe asthma that have had problems at WDW because of the smokers.

I've seen it 2 or 3 times. And I greatly appreciate it when they do. I also have asthma as well as an allergy to smoke. I applaud the smokers who do only smoke in the designated areas!

If you point out the offender to a CM they will ask them to stop (not happily, but they will do it). Considering I've never seen a smoker happily stop having their nicotine fix, I don't blame them for ignoring smokers when they can.

Because of all the smoking discussions here, on our last trip I tried to pay close attention to what was happening in the parks. I have to say I didnt really see anyone smoking where they shouldnt be until the last day in the MK...and this ws a great one! We were going on the TTA. The CM was standing at the turnstiles, with her back to the ride, and directly in front of her, inside the metal bars( so she was actually in the line area) was a woman smoking. She couldnt have been more than 4 feet away from the CM and they both stood there staring at each other, the CM never saying a word. I was really surprised about that.

As a CM at AK I do have to show folks where the smoking area is...folks often light up while seated on those benches outside of Kilimanjaro Safari's. In general though, I find that these are people who really arent aware of the smoking policy and will extinguish or move to the approproate area without a problem. It is our job to do so whenever we see someone smoking, however I have been in the same position as some of you as well, seeing it in other parks and CM's not saying anything  I am a smoker myself but will always use appropriate areas. In some cases, as a guest, I've had to ASK another CM (ie: at the outdoor table area at the Electric Umbrella/Epcot) to inform guests that they couldn't do so there

Only once in all my trips have I seen a CM tell someone they were in a no smoking area. On my last trip to Universal, I saw one of their CM's do so, also.

On my trip in Dec. I saw 3 or 4 people walking around main park walkways smoking. I was impressed by a young female CM at Mission Space who told a group of young men as they walked up to chat with her that they could only smoke in designated areas. I can understand people "accidentally" smoking on an out of the way bench, but smoking while walking through the crowds??? I always assume that they are from a country where that is acceptable. I guess they could just be thoughtless Americans, though.

I have seen CM's ask guests to smoke in the designated areas, I have asked CM's to ask smokers to do so, and I have asked smokers to do so.

My BF smokes (for now, let's hear it for one more attempt to quit! Hopefully it'll work this time!!) and when we were in the parks he lit his cigarette while walking to Dinoland in AK. I checked my map and then we realized there were designated smoking areas. He felt SO BAD! I told him not to worry so much, but after that we always hunted down the smoking areas. Sometimes it's an honest mistake, other times it's just plain rude.

As a Cast Member myself at Epcot, I have always informed guests that smoking is only allowed in designated areas throughout the park. I'll point that area outside my Attraction to them. Most all comply but once in a while you'll find an individual who feels the rule doesn't apply to them. They'll just turn around, cigarette in hand, and continue on their merry way!

You are correct. Some Cast Members won't bother to tell guests but, for the comfort of everyone around them, they should.

I second that - there were plenty of rude somkers when we were there last week. Not one CM said anything.

A CM outside the Beauty & Beast Show in MGM asked a guest who was walking along the street to either put out his cigarette or go to a smoking area. The man looked at him blankly so either didn't understand (he looked European - he was carrying a 'man purse') or he pretended not to. The CM said something like, "Gee, thanks for listening." The CM seemed pretty nice, but definitely ineffectual. The 'rules don't apply to me' crowd would not pay much attention to him.

twice this past visit in AK......he asked politely and the guy was sort of rude .......he got the message though.......and asked where the smoking area was located........I shudder to think of a childs face being even with a butt that is lit........yes I have been burned and I am also an x smoker........so I know about smoking.......I also remember a cm in Epcot asking someone to discard the cigarette......it happens

On New Year's day last week we were waiting for Spectro to start and the CM (looked to be management) looked around and said "OK, who's smoking?". He smelled the man smoking next to us and asked him to put it out or move to a smoking area, the man immediately went to put out his cigarette. I thanked the CM, I am one of those with asthma. That on top of being pregnant makes smoke very irritating to me.
