I have been reading all the posts about HIFS and am excited to be going there in May. But, lately it seems as though a lot of people have been getting sick during their stay there. Hopefully, just a coincidence, but..how many have stayed there and someone in their family has gotten sick during their stay?
Thanks,
Cathy

I've also read the reports of getting sick and staying at HIFS. I just want to say that we will probably be staying at this hotel in June and I'm not at all worried about this. When I stayed there previously in 2000, they were very diligent about closing pools if contaminated, etc. It's cold and flu season. Germs travel, especially among children. Maybe something did happen there a week ago, but I can't believe that this will be an ongoing problem. It could be just a strong coincidence that many people caught a virus at the same time.

I hope so! I am really looking forward to HIFS. I spent a lot of time trying to make a good hotel choice at a great rate. We'll be there Memorial Day Weekend.

I really wouldn't worry about. Probably just coincidence. After all, it is flu season ~ I know sickness is running rampid at my kids school and everyone I talk to has "something" this season.

(I think the chances they cought something on the plane are better than from the hotel anyway ~ IMO)

Anyway I hope everyone is feeling better soon!

I just returned for HIFS yesterday. I did actually get violently ill in the middle of the night Tuesday and missed all of the days activities. However, I cannot say it was the hotel that caused it. I feel it was definitely something that I ate but cannot say from where. The rest of my family did not get sick (thank goodness) I felt it was either a turkey sandwich I had at Blizzard Beach or possibly the mayo I used on it. I did eat at the hotel buffet the evening before so it is really hard to say. It was a total bummer being that sick but I did get past it in 24 hours.

Hi Kessieann- We are neighbors, I live in Greenville.

Anyway, We just got back, as did several people we know. We did not stay at HIFS, but everyone is getting sick. It is just the season, probably not the hotels. Hope that helps.

Howdy neighbor :) Wasn't it hard coming back home to the cold zone? Dh is actually talking about moving to Orlando. I thought he was joking but he brought home the want ads and real estate ads from the Orlando paper.

Everyone in my family got sick (4 of us) when staying there in 2002. As others have stated though, it was February and that's flu season. :( Do I remotely think it was the hotel's fault? Nope.

We muscled through it and went to the parks. We only had 4 days, so we did our best. Luckily it was the you feel like crap flu not the vomiting. We rented a stroller for the girls, watched every parade and show. We were sick Day 3&4 and 3 days when we came home.

I don't associate it to the hotel though. I think it's simply a case of everyone around you has a little cold and you are touching every handrail in the park, etc. So you are more apt to catch a bug.

I will be taking a bottle of Purell in my backpack this time and hourlyhand sanitation is going to be forced upon members of the family (read: DH).

BTW, we are staying at HIFS in March. So obviously, the flu didn't stop us.

One more note, I think overexhaustion makes you more prone to getting sick. Remember to take frequent breaks, especially for the little ones.

I would definitly stay at HIFS again! But I do believe that is where my daughter caught her sickness from (that is just my opinion though, I can never be sure). Whether from playing in the pool or on the jungle gym or walking by someone that sneezed. Being that it is flu season, other sick guests could have been there passing it along. I do not blame HFIS, it's a public place, what can they do. I don't believe it is a coincidence that we all got it. Besides my daughter, my mother, father and sister got it also. All this being said...
HIFS is a great place to stay! My daughter loved it and if the price is right next time we will be staying there!
Hope everyone is getting better that stayed there.

It is absolutely hard to come back, especially because we lost days due to illness. But- here we are! At least it hit the 20's today, better than the minus temps last week!!

After reading all the posts in the past about rashes and flulike illness, I also do not think it's coincidence. The only time we were around people at the hotel other than check in/out (actually i was the only one doing that) was the breakfast buffet, except for last Sunday, she was too sick to go, the family pool (she played with one girl for 5 minutes and only stood up), then the kiddie pool, (there were 3 other little girls in there with her) We did not do any of the entertainment, etc. I'm wondering if it could be in the venting or something? or the rooms not being cleaned properly? (I did see a hair in our tub upon arrival..YUCK) All I know is I'm hearing my dd coughing her lungs out right now and it's been going on for 9 days now and she's been on antibiotics and this is the longest we've ever stayed sick. Then again, it COULD have been picked up elsewhere..it's just too ironic so many were sick, esp. last week.
We're planning on going back in December, but as much as I liked the hotel (mainly for the breakfast and the suite) I doubt I will be staying there again.
