Just a little fluff question, nothing majorly important, but we are curious . . .

During our last trip, we noticed two guys leaving the park within about an hour after opening. They had, between them, at least 10 large bags packed full of merchandise. We were kind of "wow"'d by the amounts but quickly moved on.

The next morning we saw some more guys doing the same. And then a couple more later in the trip.

My first thought was kind of cynical . . . maybe it's people buying authentic Disney park merchandise and selling it on a secondary market (i.e. eBay)??? Why go INTO the park to do that, though? Why not just go to World of Disney in DTD? DH thought maybe they are just moving merchandise from within the park to other stores? Is that really how they would do it, though?

Any ideas or thoughts? Maybe all in all it was just a weird coincidence.

Was it a time when some sort of limited edition merchandise was released?

I have to think that if it was just being moved within the park to other stores they would have a "back door" way of doing that.

There's merchandise you can only get in the park I think. For example, at the 24 hour party for the 60th kick-off, there were a ton of people there just to buy the merchandise to resell it on ebay or whatever. I've seen and talked to people who just go in to buy stuff all the time. To me, it's weird. But, for someone who may never get to Disneyland, maybe it makes sense to buy it off of someone who has been.

It was the week of July 11-15. Nothing unlimited that I know of.

It just seemed like waaaaaay more stuff than a simple souvenir hunter.

There are actually limited merchandise releases a couple of times per month.

There are personal shoppers out there and will go buy big things like Dooney and Bourke purses when a new release comes out. I used one once and she sent a photo of her and her husband holding the huge bags full of purses. They are only available in select stores and sometimes the easily accessible Downtown Disney store are easier to get to so often more of a line. The local season pass holders just go to the park early and odds are better and getting store stuff.
