The story originally was about Lowes but for Matts sake just insert the words Home Depot where ever you see Lowes

They are buying generators like candy, batteries like m&m's and why on earth would one person need 5 flashlights.

My favorite a man buying the biggest generator they had a 5500 watt job, and 2 window air conditioning units. His answer I'm not sweating when the power goes out.

Then I went to Wal-Mart, well there we ran into folks with shopping carts full of frozen foods and bottled water. :hmm I asked a few of the shoppers whats with all the frozen food... One guy said to me and I quote "where have you been son, there's a hurricane coming" and I said "yes I know but what will you do when the power goes out?" The look was worth a million dollars to me.

Yes these poor folks failed to remember that the fridge is indeed powered by electricity... Oh well off to Lowe's to get that generator. Now I know most of these folks have freezers and the food will keep for a few days if your careful, but I have a better plan.

Okay I will let you all in on my secret.... Ready??? yes I fully expect the lights to go out, no I did not go to buy a generator , tons of batteries, or a small nuclear reactor. It's simple really... I made reservations at Pop Century. Face it kids the storm will hit Friday if we loose power I know Reedy Creek will not, all their utilities are under ground so they never loose power, they take precautions and shut off the high risk areas, and wait out the storm. Disney has one of the most awesome disaster recovery plans in effect I'm told in the event of a major storm they can be back to 100% operation in 24hr.

So lets do the math the power will be back in two to three days I will just take all the food out of the freezer which is not much we will have a massive barbecue using Manny's grill at the clubhouse I'll feed the neighborhood, then I'm off to Walt Disney.

My hotel stay will be about $200.00 the guy with the generator his bill $1700.00 Not me kids I'm going to Disney World. :teeth:

Last time we had a storm we lost power for 5 days, I had a generator, and I felt like a heal because I had lights and my neighbors did not I did offer, and kept all the food in my fridge, and I tried to be nice and gave my one buddy next door an extension cord to run a lamp or two, I got an alarm from the generator that it was being overloaded and the breaker popped the extension cord to his house got so hot it melted and burned the grass. The reason... he had plugged in to his breaker panel and was running half his lights a microwave oven, and his TV set :teeth:

Let's see. . . last time we had a hurricane here in Maryland (last September), we flew down to WDW and had fun with Ed and Donna (and a thousand other pintraders). :scratchin

So I guess, it must be our turn to host some of our WDW friends up here while the hurricane batters Central Florida.

OK guys, just hustle up here and we'll take care of you!

Overflow guests can stay at Ruthie's. :yo-yo:

Thanks for the invite Robyn..but this will be our first bad storm in our new home...we want to see if we have one left afterwards..

We sit on a hill, w/ a ravine behind us, we have huge glass sliding doors in our 2nd floor bedroom, on the east side, (which is supposed to be the side of the storm we are going to get)
So we are very curious to see how it is going to work out...luckly we have no huge trees to drop on us...

Hey by the way, isn't that what happened to Ruthie last year??

But like Ed said....if we loose our power.etc. Disney has lovely rooms..:hyper:

Ahhh... disaster shopping. Richmonders are right up there at the top of the list.

Predictions of snow I SWEAR are started by the local grocery chains when their sales are down. They predict it and they will come. They will buy up all the milk, bread and kitty litter. Not exactly sure what the deal is. Even during our worst blizzards like the blizzard of 2000 - we were out of the house within 3-4 days. That's crazy that people don't have an extra 3-4 days worth of food laying around.

Then there was the chemical warfare scare last year. Home Improvement stores put out pallets of duct tape and plastic and Richmonders couldn't get enough of it. They were buying enough to wrap their houses twice over. I stood there watching them attack a fresh pallet of duct tape once and this guy asked if I wanted him to grab a roll for me. I told him no, that's okay. He asked "well aren't you going to get prepared to tape and plastic up your windows and doors in case a chemical bomb goes up? The chemicals will get in your house! You have to make your house airtight!" I looked at him and asked - "If my house it taped up airtight - how the heck am I going to be able to breathe? No air will be getting in either!!"

Then Isabel came to town. The first category 2 hurricane to make it far enough inland to whallop Richmond without downgrading to tropical storm. And lucky us - where I live was dead center on it's path. People wigged out. They bought anything they could think they might need, then they wanted more. I don't know how many people came in my store looking for batteries. I'm a Hallmark store my God, not Radio Shack! Funny thing... I sell batteries now :teeth:

Anyway.. good luck to the local crew... hold down the fort and let us know when it's over and that you are okay!!

Donna,

While I admire your courage . . . why don't you let Ed stay in the house during the hurricane and he can check it all out and <i>let you know how it goes!</i> Isn't that kind of a <b>"guy</b>" thing, anyway? (Insert grunt noise here. ;) )

Then if you <b>don't</b> hear from him, you'll know it was just another one of <b>his</b> bad ideas! :smooth:
