People are so cruel - Sorry need to vent

I have just got in from next door , Some little B******* have smashed my 85 year old Greek neighbours back door tonight , so we had police here and our Housing association have just been to patch it up for the night.

We are the youngest tenants by miles in this sheltered housing group 80% are pensioners and the rest disabled , so why they feel the need to bother our road I have no idea.

So angry right now.

Oh, that's just awful.

I believe in karma,the good will be rewarded and the bad will get what's coming to them.

Have you any idea why the door was broken? Were the vandals caught?

It was kids , we've had issues before of them messing about by our back wall , so it may have been an accident but I doubt it, they've been known to wind him up before , he has limited English , and gets flustered easily.

They were seen running away over the bridge , I doubt we'll ever know who did it or why.

It's sad as he's still so independent he walks all over town to the launderette to the shops, and he never bothers anyone , so why do they bother him.

This is terrible. I am not sure if I am more sad and angry about the fact that your elderly neighbour had to go through this or the fact that the kids cannot think of something worthwhile and productive to do with their free time.

I popped round just before it got dark , and he told me he'd walked across town today to the housing office to get a date for the door to be replaced , he walked over 2 miles because he didn't want to disturb me and knock on my door. So I told him of he ever needs to use a phone just to knock and that he doesn't need to walk miles but he said it keeps him fit. Bless him

About 18 months ago we had trouble with a small group of boys who would throw their footballs into his garden and when he'd come out and ask them to go away, they would take the mickey out of him for his English, of course then he'd get more flustered and it would be even harder for him to get the words out .

I liken it to us Brits trying to order something in Spain for example , if the waiter doesn't understand we just try to say it louder and slower, which he was trying to do with his English , but they were just laughing at him.

When did kids get so cruel , I'm only 26 so it's not a million years since I was their age but if i had acted like that , I would have got a clip round the ear and have been marched round there to apologise.

How terrible. That poor person will not sleep for weeks for fear it will happen again. Make sure to keep lights on outside as well as on the inside. We have a few lights inside on timers. Once a month I change what time the come on and go off.

Also let neighbors when you will be gone so they can keep an eye out on you house.

My front porch light shines over towards his back garden I will leave my light on for a few nights , I don't sleep particularly well and I was up till 4am this morning and was checking out of the windows every so often in case anyone was around.

I am pleased to hear that he has not lost his confidence in going out and keeping independent.
