I posted here yesterday about a family that DH and I wanted to play secret santa for this Christmas. It's a single mom with 4 girls all trying to live on the income the mom makes working as a nurse's aid at a nursing home.

DD called last night and found out these girls have been going without socks and underwear, with too small shoes and coats. DH and I sent out some emails to co-workers asking if they wanted to help. The response has been unreal. A women DH works with has already donated $100 to buy the girls shoes. Numeous people are bringing and buying them clothes. Several others have brought by 10's or 20's. Someone else has donated a turkey and a ham. Three people from my work have offered their help as well. One of them is going pay their electric bill for them (it's behind).

I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of people for total strangers. These are not rich people but they are incredibly generous. This is the best Christmas gift I've ever had - and it's not even for me! :santa:

That is really good that people are coming for together and helping. God Bless you for spreading your kindness and ideas.

That's a wonderful thing you, your DH and all those generous people have done!! It's nice to hear an uplifting story sprinkled in with all the bad news we seem to always get.

Awww, thanks for posting such a nice story. :goodvibes You're right, for the most part people are awesome.

Yay for people!!! :goodvibes

My sister picks a family every year and the donations she gets from people are incredible!

Thank you for doing this :thumbsup2

Nice job! People can indeed be awesome, and you are awesome too for starting the ball rolling.

I had a unique (for us) chance to do something for others this season, and it is absolutely making my Christmas too.

Many people are suffering this time of year with no jobs, or money. I'm glad some people are helping them.

That is so neat...

They had a story on our local news about a family that just moved to the USA. The mom wouldn't be home from work in time to bring the rent payment to the landlord. So she sent the $600 cash for the rent payment to school with her 6th grade son. Unfortunately- halfway through the day this he boy discoverd his wallet missing from his school bag. He was visibly distraught and was sure his family would be evicted before Christmas.

The kids in his class all started to pool their money together- and soon the teachers and other classes joined in too. Just the kids in the middle school managed to gather enough money to cover the rent but also had enough for Christmas presents too. When the principal went with the boy to pay the rent- they discovered that an anonymous donor had already covered the December rent- so the school covered January's rent- and they also found that someone paid all the utilities (electric/water/phone/cable) too.

They interviewed students at the school- and not one suspected the kid of conveniently losing the money... and many had nothing nice to say to the thief- the principal had said several announcements were made requesting that if it was found that it be returned- with NO questions asked- but it still never turned up. The kids all said that whoever took it was pretty pathetic- especially since they didn't return it later.

I thought it was neat how the kids all rallied for this family.

You are awesome for helping this family out!!!!:goodvibes

When I was about 6 years old, my Mom and her twin got together what money they could-- and took my cousin and me shopping for this poor family that they had learned about.
On Christmas Eve, we took food- tons of it- and presents- loads of them- into a really really poor section of town. My Mom and Aunt actually were a bit scared to get out of the car, but I remember like it was yesterday walking with them into this family's home. I had never in my life seen poverty like that. The family was so thankful- I remember them crying and thanking us over and over again.

When we got back out to the car, someone had broken into it and all of our presents for our family were gone.
We were poor ourselves. I too wore shoes that were a bit too tight and had pants that weren't quite long enough- I have no idea where my Mom had gotten the money to buy all that she did that year.

But I learned a lot more that night about the kind of person I wanted to be when I said "Mommy, someone stole all of our presents- what will we do?" and she looked at me and said "Honey, they needed them a lot more than we did." And with that she smiled and drove home, never talking about it again.

My nieces teacher had purchased a tv for her husband for christmas. She was storing it at her sister's house until the big day. Her sisters house was robbed....so, bah-dah-bing no tv.

My niece and her friends (5th graders) held a back sale and gave all the proceeds to thier teacher.

Wow....takes a bunch a eleven year old's to show us the real spirit of Christmas sometimes!!!
