Pentax and Hoya to merge!!!

Pentax and Hoya are merging! (read as Hoya is buying Pentax) At this time there will be no change to the camera division from what I can tell. This should be a good thing for Pentax users. They will have stronger financial backing. I will be interested to hear more on this one.

Hmm. Interesting. The only thing I know Hoya for is their filters (I think my 4-point star filter is a Hoya) - I guess I'll have to pay more attention to the name in the future.

Based on the press release info, Hoya is a somewhat larger organization with higher profits. I wonder if Hoya feels threatened that so many filter effects can now be done in software and now they want to diversify? It looks like both are in the medical field and want to expand there. There can be big $$$ in that field. Significant to camera users, they are keeping the Pentax imaging division intact and merging the two company's optics divisions. At least it could lead to more lens selections for us with a team effort.
