Hi guys,
A friend of mine is trying to bring her 2 kids to Disneyland soon. Since she is a single parent she wants to find a very inexpensive place to stay. Has anyone stayed at the Penny Sleeper in or does anyone know anything about it?

Her main concerns are #1 Cleanliness of course. #2 How far the walk is.

THanks, any info will help her out. :goodvibes

Not sure about the pennysleeper, but have her go onto expedia and see what the rates for the Carousel Inn are. We got the weekend of Labor day for $59 a night, and from what I have read it is a nice facility, and it is right across the street from the parks, as well as close to several restaurants and mcdonalds.
Down side is she would have to pay for her room up front to get the expedia rate.

I stayed at the Penny Sleeper about 11 years ago. Pretty basic Motel 6 style at I can remember. Proximity to DL is good.

BTW: as far a walking goes, it's easily walkable. Not as close as some. I est. aprox. 10-15 minute adult walk. w/ children it is probably longer (everything is)

Just drove by the Penny Sleeper last week - it is on the side street that runs next to the HoJo and is about 1 block east of the HoJo closer to I-5. The Carousel, Tropicana or Park Inn are much closer if they are concerned about the walk.

Hi
We stayed here 4 years ago and wouldn't do it again.
It wasn't very clean, the staff weren't helpful and it was very noisy.
Also, it's quite a walk.
I would recommend the Carousel though!
Hope that helps!

I read on another board that the Penny Sleeper Inn was called the Village Lodge. The Village Lodge was pretty dirty and a dump. Thankfully, Anaheim has plenty of other choices for hotels near Disney. I think I read that the Penny Sleeper Inn was cheap, but you could obtain better rooms for a few dollars more.

If you are looking for that kind of lodging there are several on Katella that seem pretty decent (Ive never stayed in them just walked by) One is Fantasy Suites something or other about 415 Katella and the Little Boy Blue is across the street

The Super 8 on Katella is usually VERY reasonable for rates and they are clean, nice and ya get free breakfast (and now the LA Times newspaper) its about 2 blocks from the DL harbor enterance.

Sorry, like I said it's been about 11 years since I stayed there. I certainly don't want anyone to stay in a dump. I'm fairly picky myself.

From eveything I've been reading on this forum, everyone seems to love the Howard Johnson- except one person- and only a 7 min. walk. We are actually going to try it for our trip in Nov. I can't speak personally about the Penny Sleeper but we have stayed in Days Inn before and I put them about the same class from what I've seen of them. We were very disappointed in them the last time we visitied. Anyway, for the price I would suggest something across the street for DL. I check expedia.com for prices then the hotels actual web site- sometimes they have their own specials. I have seen the hojo has several discounts off their regular rate of $69 per night. Anywhere from 7-15% off. I wouldn't just pick one cheap hotel. Do some surfing if you have time and find good prices, then check old posts to find out what people have to say about them. There are several recent ones on the Hojo, Candy Cane and Carousel.
