Is there a penalty for showing up with less people than you had in your reservation?

Currently we have a reservation for Le Cellier for 4 people but it might end up being just 2 or 3 people that show up. So is there going to be any penalties for showing up with less people?

No pentalty at a Disney restaurant for showing up with fewer people unless you had to give them a credit card at booking.:)

Sounds great.

Another questions is can I have 2 reservations at the same place on the same day just a few hours apart?

We are going with some friends and I've been doing all the booking and planning and thought that each should have their own time at a sit down restaurant, so is it possible for me to book the same place for the same day and each couple use one?

If you know which party is going to use which one, then use different names to book. Otherwise, it's possible in the system, just keep tabs on them in case some CM flags them (has been known to happen).

oh good, is that a fact that there's no penalty for showing up with less? My sister MAY be coming with us but she won't decide for sure 'til probably a month before. i was thinking when I make all my ADRs to make them for 1 more person assuming she's coming. It would be a lot easier to do that than to try to add her at the last minute when everything is already booked. But I wasn't sure if we'd get turned away or penalized if we show up with 1 less person.

Ok, currently I do have two so I guess the best solution would be to just call the Dining csr's and have them change the name? Is that possible?

Or would I need to cancel and rebook under a new name?

You should book it under a different name because Disney has been canceling multiple bookings

You cannot switch names on the reservation, so the best bet would be to rebook under a different name and then cancel. (Yes, that order). If you can't find a new one for the other party, then leaving it be is fine, just be warned that if you call for some reason, there's a chance that double booking could be flagged for cancellation.

Damn, ok.

I guess the last resort would be to cancel it and the rebook it online with the new names.

I guess I'll do it at a weird hour so I make sure I can get it back. LOL

Just wanted to throw in my two cents here:

There is no penalty for showing up with less people, but I have read of cases on these boards where the hard-to-book restaurants, in particular Le Cellier, have turned away your reservation when you come with less people and it affects their tables. For instance - they seat 1/2 people at 2 seaters and 3/4 people at 4 seaters. If you had a group of 4 booked, you'd have a 4-table. If you came with 2 people they would have to switch your table type (because it's beyond them to sit 2 people at 4-seat when they're booked for some reason). I just wanted to give you a heads up of a worse case scenario. It seems rare, but I have read about it on the boards.

AND regarding the multiple reservations split. If it's a hard-to-get reservation I wouldn't worry about rebooking under a different name. Yes, Disney has been know to cancel multiple reservations by a CM who just happens upon your ressies, but as far I can tell there's no one patrolling the reservations, so that could happen to anyone. And I've never been asked for ID when I go to a ADR, so IMO if your friend just uses your name at check-in, I don't see what the problem would be.

Just providing what I've read from hours on these boards! :) Hope it helps a little.

Thanks for the tidbits.

I guess we might have to take our chances because I have a 11:40 and 1:40 with both being for 4 but it would be 3 and 2 so hopefully they will allow the 2.

I scrolled over your post and thought you said 14 people!! :faint:

We reserved for a party of 7 at LeCellier, but only showed up with 6 and were seated on time without any questions. Had there been a question, the answer would have been that my sister who was meeting us in FL was in the ED (then admitted into the hospital) in Chicago with a kidney infection.

I think that you'll be fine, even if you're going from 5 to 4 or 2. Most of what I've seen on the boards about having issues at LeCellier, etc is when you move up to a different size. I've never seen first hand reports of issues about going down in party size.

Yep, done it a few times ourselves. Justs this last trip we had several ADRs for a table for 4 and our friends had an emergency and had to cancel their trip the night before they were to arrive. I figured we just made another party of 2 very happy to get a walk in. We were never turned away, nor ever even questioned.

Good to know.

Do they check names on reservations? Should I really try to look into changing it or just keep my name on both?

There seems to be no automated system that cancels reservations. So long as you don't have another person dealing with your reservations, you will likely be fine.

We were supposed to be a party of 6, 2 of the kids got sick and one adult stayed back with them. So, we showed up a party of 3 and Tony's in the MK had no problem at all.

Well I guess it's better to show up with less people than more people.
