Pediatricians in WDW area??

Of course, it's inevitable...I keep my dd out of school this week to keep her from getting sick and she wakes up today (we're leaving tomorrow) with a runny nose. With her it's rare to get just a runny nose, she usually gets a fever, ear infection, etc. To take her to her regular dr today would be a waste because it's too early to see if it'll get worse so...

Has anyone used any of the pediatricians in the WDW area (Celebration or Kissimmee?)??? Walk-in's any good (a little nervous about those)..or does anyone know of any places that have "after" hours or weekend hours?

THANKS!!

(will also post on family board)

My daughter and I felt the need of medical attention last June and went to a walkin. No complaints - they had regular doctor's that seemed to know what they were doing. They had great service - a van picked up us, took us to a pharmacy to get prescriptions and returned us to our resort at no extra charge. If you feel the situation warrants it (or if it's late at night) you could go to the ER in the hospital at Celebration. We did that too because my husband passed out in the Animal Kingdom and was transported to the hospital via a Disney ambulance. Dr. Kang was the physician on duty and I thought he was very good. I hope you don't need to use it but there is plenty of medical service available while you are at WDW.

Do you remember where the walk-in was or what it was called? Hope your husband was ok, that must have been a rough trip!

Last June my son decided it would be a good time to get sick on the day we arrived at WDW.

We had the van pick us up & take us back to the resort when we were finished.
It was called CentreCare Clinic (I believe???) Ask someone at Disney, they will know.

Just be forewarned that depending on your insurance you will have to pay up front & then submit it to your insurance company yourself. So make sure you have a "back up" fund for the cost of a drop in.

Hopefully you won't need it but it is there if you do. We got pretty good treatment. The doctor was great but I really didn't care for the nurse that checked us in.

I think we were there for about an hour or an hour and a half.

GOOD LUCK!!!

PM Libertybelle, she lives in the area and may be of some help. She is on this thread from time to time and very willing to be helpfull.

Have to admit, it wasn't our best trip to WDW. My Sister's granddaughter also had to be taken to a walkin (they couldn't treat her because their permission for medical care signed by both the father and mother was not noterized) so they had to take her to the ER. But the good news is that medical care is plentiful and nearby. Guest Services will call a van for you. There was a man at the walkin with his 6 year old daughter - suffering from the same affliction as my daughter and I (bad cough and sore throat) and his insurance wasn't acceptable to the clinic and he had to pay $125 for the visit. They took mine and my daughter's no problem. Didn't hear what insurance this gentleman had. My husband is fine. I don't think he really needed to go to ER but those folks at WDW are very careful about proctecting themselves and I don't blame them. And truth be told, he rather enjoyed his afternoon visiting with the doctor and nurses and hovered over by his wife and daughter.

I went to CentreCare when I got sick at WDW. I was in and out in an hour, and WalGreens filled my prescription. Luckily that week my mom was visiting, so I didn't have to take care of myself! :teeth:

Last year before my trip I called my insurance company to find out what walk-in and hospital I would be able to go to if I needed to for my dd's. They gave me a few in the area to choose from and this year I'm gonna do it again before we go and check online. I'm sure I tossed the info from last year like a fool. I keep everything else from my trips, but have no idea why I didn't keep this.

Learned the hard way about checking before traveling on where I would be covered when we took a girl only trip to upstate NY and my little one got a nasty cough to go along with the runny nose she had. After one night of no sleep I had my uncle take me and dd to a clinic nearby and they were good enough to bill me for the visit, but the paperwork was a big pain when I had to have the billing sent to my insurance company. Took 3 months to finally get the bill paid.

I've learned it pays to call ahead and find out where you are covered just in case. You may even be able to see a list online at the insurance company website. At least you are pretty safe at a walk-in that they cover you for.

We used Resort Physicans, when my DD came down with an ear ache. You call them and they come to your hotel room. Same cost as walk in clinic 100.00 (2 years ago) and you don't have to drag your child around. They don't take insurance, and since our plan does not pay for out of network Dr's did not matter if it was walk in or house call, Insurance pays for ER , but I was not going to waste 3/4 hours in the ER for an ear ache.
Dr called in the RX and we on our way to the parks within 2 hours. We were off site that year, and was told that Disney does not work with them, but I would presume that they can come to On site hotels if you call.

We have used CentraCare twice now in the last year on two separate trip and for two different children. My kids seems to be conditioned to get sick at WDW (maybe from the constant go-go-go??). We've been really happy with the child friendly atmospher and the care they have received.

Thanks everyone for your help. I found the CentraCare website and have their phone number and hours. I also now have the Resort Physicians' number in case CentraCare doesn't take our insurance. Thanks again!
