Hi,
both my daughters came home today with notices that there is a child in each of their classes with nut, nut oils and eggs allergies. They do however let children celebrate their birthday's with a goody. This will be the first year that my 5th grader will have a birthday that falls during the school week.usually it falls over Feb vacation. So she was disappointed that she wouldn't be able to bring in cupcakes. I told her that we could still bring in something, but would need to research this.
Does anyone have any good ideas for a nut free, nut oil free and egg free dessert. I want to bring a dessert so please do not suggest non edible items.

Thank you!

Rice Krispie treats are great...you could even make "lollipops" out of them by putting them on a stick, and then wrapping them in individual cello bags with a pretty curly ribbon. Makes it look like a fun, special treat without a lot of work.

Or same with chocolate covered pretzel rods with sprinkles.
If you do pretzels, be careful though, some brands of pretzels are "manufactured in a facility" with peanuts. For example, Snyders of Hanover brand.

My DDs' school just changed the birthday celebration policy because of this reason. They purchased a frozen yogurt machine and each class will celebrate all the birthdays of each month at the end of the month in the cafeteria with frozen yogurt and safe toppings bar. No more bringing in of individual treat. Most parents were thilled with this.

Starburst candies

And there are egg free cupcake mixes that are also nut/peanut free. Check the internet or your local "healthy foods" type store.

I am allergic to both eggs and peanuts. My only concern with this is that if you are planning on actually cooking please be very very careful about cross contamination espcially with the nuts.

For cooking:
my favorite is cherrybrook kitchen mixes. They have chocolate cake, yellow cake and chocolate chip cookies. I get the mixes at whole foods. I just use regular pillsbury frosting with it. Its egg and nut free and much better than the cherrybrook kitchen frosting mixes.

For store bought:
Pinwheels (my favorite)
or
rice krispies treats (I prefer homemade though)

Someone brought Italian ices (the prepacked frozen tube kind) for their peanut allergic child's birthday at my son's school--all the kids seemed to love this treat. It was winter time but no one seemed to mind.

Thank you for the responses. I love those ideas. I would have never thought of them. Rice krispies lollipops idea, pretzel rods and also the frozen yogurt idea may work for my oldest. I am thinking about italian ices or popsicles for my youngest who will celebrate next week and it has been a heat wave here so it just may work out great!!
I did read some things about the Cherrybook products. I am going to look into that too.
Thank you so much for these ideas

That was my thought, too -- my guys would love this!

There is a cake recipe I used to make when my son was egg-allergic. It is called "Wacky Cake" and I found the recipe on a vinegar bottle but it is all over the internet.

You can make cupcakes with this, make your own frosting, and you're good to go.

My mom used to make a mayonaise cake. It was DELICIOUS! The mayonaise replaces the eggs ands oil.

A chocolate mayonnaise cake, made with mayonnaise in place of eggs and oil.
Ingredients:
•2 cups flour
•1/2 cup cocoa
•1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
•1/4 teaspoon salt
•1 cup sugar
•3/4 cup mayonnaise
•1 cup water
•1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
Sift together the flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Cream together the sugar, mayonnaise, water and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture; stir until well blended. Pour batter into greased and floured layer cake pans (or a 9- x 13-inch pan). Bake at 350°F. for about 25 minutes.

Depending on the mayo, the egg allergy person cannot eat some of it. My son had to eat a soy mayonnaise when he was allergic but that was about 12 years ago. Maybe some more "mainstream" mayos are made without egg now.

Mayo has eggs in it. Just looked at my Kraft Mayo and it lists eggs and egg yolks. I would think that would be a no go.

If you really want to make somethign form scratch, you can just replace the eggs in MOST cake recipes with egg replacer (i use ener-g brand).

Its very very simple to do and most of the recipes still taste really really good.

There's no real mayo without eggs. Even the "light" mayo has egg whites in it.

I was going to suggest popsicles -

I do like the idea that a PP menitoned where they purchased the frozen yogurt machine.
