Has anyone here been diagnosed with PCOS?

I think I may have it but have yet to see a gyno and I just turned 20. The whole idea of going to a gyno gives me great anxiety. The only thing that leaves me less than 100% sure is that I have not had problem losing weight. I have lost 25lbs since I started exercising and eating right in July (reaching the 25lb mark at the end of September).

I'm thinking of self medicating with birth control pills because my cycle is completely off and erratic and I have some other unwanted physical characteristics.

Anyone out there with similar concerns or questions? :confused3

I have PCOS and it was diagnosed when I was about your age. You cannot self-medicate with birth control pills, you need a prescription from a doctor. It may as well be a GYN.

Take the time to find a kind, compassionate physician. Ask your friends, your mom, your friends' moms. See who they like and dislike.

There isn't much else that can be done about PCOS at this point. When you decide to have children, there will be other steps to take, but for now it's important to get regular cycles going.

See a doctor! I know the first one of 'those' visits is scary, but there's nothing they haven't seen before! ;)

Good luck!

I doubt that anyone looks forward to a vist to the gynocologist but perhaps your GP could recommend someone.
Please don't try to guess what the problem may be and then self medicate. Make an appointment and maybe take someone for suport, it won't be as bad as you imagine.
My gynacologist is adorable and his nurse is such a sweetie and although I never look forward to the appointment it is just one of those things that needs to be done.

Yeah, definitely not good on the whole male gynos. Why would they want to become a gyno in the first place? .... pervs! :lmao:

Actually he is a little tiny bald man and wears a bow tie which my hubby thought was weird and then I explained that a tie could get..............in the way :rotfl:

He really is so kind and with a few ongoing problems I get to see him every couple of months (or should I say he gets to see me:scared1: ) but I have no idea what would motivate any man to be a gyno.

Cheers
Trish
