Paypal Chargeback

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I sold an item on E-bay in early December. The buyer paid via paypal and I sent the item. We both left positive feedback. On January 3, I get an email from Paypal saying that the payment is being investigated and that the amount will be placed on hold until they make a decision. I give them all the information they requested and waited. The dispute has now disappeared from my papyal account along with the money. Paypal says they have no record of this dispute. I filed a non paying bidder complaint with e-bay. The buyer just contacted me to say that she never opened a dispute with Paypal and she did not receive the money that they took from my paypal account. Where do I go from here?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Pam

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you got phished. Did you click a link from the e-mail? I'd be changing passwords, possibly even closing bank accounts if you gave them that info. Good luck. Hope you get it taken care of.

I agree with Procrastinator. Go to ebay and paypal now and change your passwords.

In the future don't follow a link in an email from ebay, PayPal, your bank or credit card company unless you're certain it's legitimate. Usually a legit email will not include your name, while a legit email will address you by first/last name. But that's not a guarantee either. You can hold your mouse over the link and see the destination at the bottom of the window (status bar). Be careful in the future.

I didn't go through a link in the e-mail. I went to paypal through a new browser window and there was a dispute opened on my account. The item in my ebay also had the paid icon removed.

That sounds awful. Was this a large amount of money? I can't imagine a "phisher" doing this type of activity for "small potatoes"...or am I mistaken in this belief?

Geez you guys...I'm a newbie at doing ebay and Paypal, although my daughter (31 years old) has been doing it for over six years. I asked her about this and she has never had that happen to her...and she's a "power seller" with ebay and uses Paypal all the time. Now I'm worried for her...

Sheesh...I swore I'd "raise 'em right and then let them be free to lead their own lives"...lol...no one told me I'd turn out to be someone who worries and prays...I used to think my mom and aunts were so "out of it"...lol...and now I've turned into my mother!

Sorry. :guilty:

That's very weird. I've never had problems with ebay or Paypal so I'm stumped.

Just a thought, could the buyer be lying to you? Would they have requested their money back from Paypal after they received the item?

Are you saying the chargeback is gone from Paypal? I have had chargebacks and they always stay on my account. Have you checked under "activites" Maybe it's on the next page. Is the auction showing up on Ebay?

Well, here is what I can tell you about a recent experience:

My bank account showed a substantial charge from Ebay, which is odd, since I haven't used my ebay account since October, and that balance was paid in october.

I looked at the invoice, and it showed that it "opened" a "PREMIER" store on my account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And no links to shut it down!!!!!!!!

So I called, and they said "We have a glitch right now...". They credited my Ebay account, so my Ebay account shows the negative amount (meaning, they owe me).

But they intially REFUSED to put the money bank into my bank! I had to threaten legal action before they would refund the money, and even then they said it would be "30 days".

I highly doubt I will be using Ebay again after that.

I was listening to a talk radio show driving into work yesterday (7amish) and they were talking about this "phish/spam" and the guest that was on the show actually received one...not sure who this person was, as I normally don't listen to the show.

I believe if paypal has closed it (which they shouldnt have without notifying you) you have to click on closed disputes
