I am sorry if I am in the wrong spot. We have reservations for August, but would like to change them to June 16. We would have the pay the difference now since it is less than 45 days out. We would owe 500.00 more. I will not be able to pay the rest until June 5. I read in other posts that people have gotten extensions.

I just talked to a CM who said they have never been able to do this. I am wondering if I should try again with someone else or if this is true.

Thanks!

I would call back and ask to speak with a supervisor. It's not uncommon for CM's not to know "everything". ;) Good luck.

That's a long extension - you'd be 11 days out.

On my last trip, there was a glitch in my final payment and I got an email saying that my payment was late and that, at 30 days out, my reservation would be cancelled. So, I they were willing to give me an extension (which I didn't actually need), but only to 30 days out. Usually when people talk about getting an extension, they aren't all the way to 11 days out.

Doesn't hurt to try again, but the CM may be right.

I agree. Most extensions I've read about are people who can't make the final payment at 45 days and get it extended to 30 days out. But I don't know that they will be willing to do an extension to 11 days out. Call and ask again, but I'd be surprised if they'd be willing to do this. Can you put it on a credit card?

I agree. If a package isn't paid by the 45 day mark, Disney will send you a reminder email or letter. If, by 30 days out, the balance isn't paid, the reservation will automatically cancel. As this poster said, usually people who ask for and get an extension aren't looking for one at just 11 days out. The only other option would be to wait until June 5th to make the change. With doing that, you are taking a chance that the resort you want might not be available, but it would help with paying the extra cost. Good luck :wizard:.

And if I'm understanding correctly, this isn't a payment extension at all. I believe that if you make a package reservation within 45 days of your stay, it must be paid in full at the time of the reservation. What you're asking is to have the reservation made now and pay a few weeks later and that I don't think they'll do.

Waiting to make the change until you have the money in hand is one option, but as the PP said, you're taking a chance that the room you want won't be available.

If you have the dining plan, another option would be to drop that, and the tickets, and add them back once you have the money.

This is the way to go. We dropped our tickets down to 1 day and cancelled dining (you can always add it back) so we would not have to pay so much money up front. I believe you can add dining up to a few days before your arrival. And you can upgrade your tickets when you arrive if you want to.

True! You can add the DDP up to 72 hours prior. I'd just drop to one day tickets and drop the dining for now.

Keep at least one day tickets on it though to keep it a pkg. If you cancel the tickets and DDP completely, your reservation then becomes a room only and to make changes they would have to cancel your current reservation, rebook a room only, then later when you called to add the DDP and park tickets back on, they'd have to cancel the room only and rebook a pkg. Each time they did that, they'd have to refund the money to your credit card, give you a new confirmation number, then recharge your cc for the full amount. You can make changes to a room only ressie or to a pkg pkg ressie without alot of trouble and the money just stays with the current reservation and still keeps the same confirmation number, but switching from a pkg to a room only or from a room only to a pkg is a whole different ball game and alot more trouble, plus their confirmation numbers are different (a room only has a long list of just numbers and a pkg has a shorter confirmation number with some letters mixed in).

Call back and specifically ask for a Guest Service Manager. Explain to them your situation and most likely they will have no problem noting your account that you will pay the balance on the 5th. Especially if they see that you have paid a huge amount of money already, they most probably will not say no. Also, reservations don't automatically get cancelled if you pay late. A manager told me that if you have paid a decent amount of money over your deposit of $200, your file may go to the Accounting Department after a week or so, and it is them who have to manually cancel your reservation. Even if that is the case, they would contact you first before doing so. The system does not automatically cancel you. That was my concern at the time as well.

My total amount is due on July 12th, but I want to wait until the 19th when I will have a bunch of extra cash. I was going to call to ask to extend it(I don't really have a ton of time during the day to call but if it is absolutely necessary I'll do it)...should I even bother to call if they will extend it to 30 days anyway and I only need a week? Can they cancel me at 45 days if they wish?

I have never heard of a 30 day extension. If I were you, I'd be on the phone right now. Once you reach the 45 day mark, they most likely will cancel it automatically.

I was quoting what the others in this thread said...that if you don't pay at 45 days, they will send you a reminder email and if you don't pay by 30 days, they will automatically cancel. You are the first to say they will cancel you at 45 the 45 day mark. I guess I'll take the time to give them a call later on.

I was one of the people saying that I got an email with an automatic 15 day extension (brining it to 30 days before my trip). However, they could cancel it at 45 days (since that is what your agreement says) and I wouldn't risk it - I'd give them a call.

I think PrincessSuzanne may have misunderstood you. I believe she thought you wanted a 30 day extension, meaning you wouldn't be paid in full until 15 days prior to your arrival. Now that IS unheard of.

Your assumption is correct. If you have not paid in full by 45 days out, you will get a reminder email. If you are still not paid in full by 30 days out your reservation will be cancelled.

Now this is how it normally works. If you want real piece of mind, I would still call. :thumbsup2

Yes, I apologize, that's the way I read it. I didn't see anything quoted. We have always had our packages paid off prior to the 45 day mark, so I have never had to worry about that. Now, we do room only. I know at one time, they wouldn't give a reminder, they would automtically cancel and I have also been told they would do it by CM's, which probably don't know anyway.

Either way, I would be calling and not risk it being cancelled, whether they will or not.

I have to agree with Lynne M... you are not wanting an extension at all. You are wanting them to wave the rule of having to pay off a package booked within the 45 days at the time of booking. Those are totally different rules.

I would wait until the 5th to make your changes if that is when you have the money.

The OP's trip should have happened by now. But the thread was bumped by CFioren317 with a question along the same lines as the OP and her trip is at the end of August.

I'm a TA. They will allow you to do this. Don't even call, just wait to pay. Disney wants you to travel and would much rather you pay a little late than cancel altogether.

This isn't like what the OP was asking for. I've had this happen with clients and Disney has demanded payment at the time we made the change (although this was very close to travel, so there might be some flexibility with that).
