When I booked our trip I asked if it would be possible to upgrade my 8 year old to an adult because I don't really like a lot of the QS options for children. They actually said that they do this all the time. We've looked at the menus and there are a few restaurants that she would like the kid's meal. Can we just pay for these and use her "extra" credit for her when we go to a restaurant we planned on paying for? Also would they allow us to pay out of pocket for a child at a buffet? She does look her age, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

Wouldn't you, if you were doing a lot of buffets and she wants the kids menu at most restaurants, be better off leaving her a child and just buying her CS meals OOP? Use her CS credits for snacks at your resort.

It does sound like you need to do a little more looking and a little more math.

If you upgrade her and then pay OOP for some of her TS meals, it does give you more adult credits to use on more TS meals, so that's less OOP for extra meals. BUT does the OOP cost for her child's meals added to the upgrade (ticket and DDP price) come out less than what you would pay OOP for extra meals?

If you do decide to do it this way, paying OOP for children buffets is more expensive than paying OOP for a regular child's TS meal. Most of the a la carte kids' meals are around $10.
