Paying for the person behind you in a drive-thru

We had this happen at the Maine Diner for lunch one day. We went to pay the bill and someone had already paid it! I was touched, but realized that we probably should do the same for someone else- except the Diner is well-known for its seafood. DH and I had sandwiches that day, with a total bill under $20. Can't get one clam dinner for that, much less a table full. We tipped the waitress an additional $20 instead- although we'd thought of buying a $20 gift card and just giving it to someone on the way out.

I remember reading about a guy who was in the McDonald's drive-thru. He had a rather large order and apparently the person taking the order had some difficulties understanding it. Of course, the person in the car behind him didn't appreciate having to wait and kept honking his horn.

After the guy successfully placed his order, he pulled up to the next window to pay. He told the person at the window that he'd like to pay for the order of the next car. The person at the window thought it was a very nice gesture. He paid for both orders, got both receipts, and pulled up to the next window.

While he was waiting for his order, apparently the guy behind him found out that his order had been paid for. The guy who paid for the orders got his order and then told the person at the window that he'd like the other order too and showed him the receipt.

The guy got the second order and left.

That's one way to deal with someone being rude to you! LOL
