Paying for DDP with gift cards

We are getting ready to leave for WDW and I am planning on purchasing gift cards before we go.

I know in the past it was reported that you could not use them to pay for the DDP, but I just got off the phone with OKW and they said that YES you CAN use them now!!

I also asked if we could use the remaining balance to pay off room charges and she said to come down the night before check-out (before midnight) and use them to pay the balance on our room.

After midnight all charges would be processed to our cc.

I don't know if applies to all resorts or not.

Has anyone had any personal experience with this?

I would suggest that you call back and ask the same question again to a different CM. You want to make sure that the information you received was accurate...often times it is easy for CMs to get confused between the Gift Card and the Rewards Card. I would for you (or anyone) to get there and then suddenly realize you have to shell out money for something you thought was already taken care of.

I just called SSR and asked and the front desk there verified that yes, they can accept them now also.

I just called OKW again, per your suggestion, and was told yes again.

She said that it started within the last month.

2) Disney gift cards that you can purchase @ disneyshopping.com (the odd shaped ones w/Mickey's head on them)????

Confused, since we were NOT able to use them to purchase the DP on 10/8th @ BCV. We were told that they could be used for any other resort charge though & in restaurants & gift shops.

I'm sending DS on honeymoon in January to BWV & would love to send him w/gift card in lieu of cash to pay for the DP (since it cannot be pre-paid).

I am speaking of the gift cards that you purchase.

Here is the response from them via email:

You may use your Disney Gift Card for front desk charges, including
your
Disney Dining Plan payment, at the hotels of the Walt Disney World
Resort. Just present your card at the front desk for payment.
