I previously posted, asking if it was possible to get rid of some gift cards by paying dues. Answers I received were basically: go on line, and I can pay multiple amounts.
Well, first I used a Visa credit card, which is offering me $100 back on a $500 purchase. Worked.
Then I tried a Visa debit card for $250. No dice.
I called member services. He tried. Wouldn't work.
Then he tried an American Express "prepaid reward" card for $75. Wouldn't work.
I read that sometimes if the security code is "0" it won't work, but that wasn't relevant here.
Any suggestions?

Did you register the Visa debit/gift card in your name so you can make online transactions? Did Member Accounting try to run the Amex card as debit also because all Amex gift/reward cards run as credit only. If they tried to process as debit card it will not work. Also, do you have a DVA.....it would be much easier to dump this mess into there and just make one payment to DVC rather than trying to process these small transactions through Member Accounting.

If you are member of Sam's Club- $142.50 buys you $150 in Disney gift cards, buy as many as you need, combine them on the disney gift card site, give member services a call and you're done.

Yes - ALERT. There IS INDEED a known bug in the WDW payment system that will REJECT any Web Based Payments when a Card has a CCV starting with a ZERO.
This should not be an issue when PHONING IN - CCVs are generally not required through PHONE contact.

How we know: We could NOT Pay DVC dues with our Disney Visa. The CCV started with a ZERO. A kind CM at DVC informed us of the online site bug, and proceeded to go in through a non-web back end to run the payment.

Oh - Edit.... if you happen to be a Web Coder? You will see in an instant WHY this bug exists.... Bad conversion of the CCV field. Leading zero of the "012" field gets dropped during numeric conversion - and becomes "12". Just poor coding. CALL.

The cards did not need my name to activate.
I don't know how he tried to run the cards. I can call again and have him try that. Now that you mention it, I think I encountered that problem before as to running it as credit or debit.
I don't have DVA.

Well, he did ask for the CCV from me. Maybe I don't have an honest face LOL

@carlbarry, activating your visa gift/debit card and registering it in your name so you can make online transactions are two different things. When you got your card it should have been activated at that time. However in order to use it for online/non-swipe transactions, the cards typically require you to register the card in your name by calling the number on the back or visiting the website. I can't say for sure if there are other problems as well with the transaction but this issue is quite common.

Most stores will not take gift cards to pay for other gift cards.
Target is one that does. I just used Target gift cards to buy Disney Gift cards yesterday. (In store, not online).

TARGET gift cards. Yes, I've done that, too. But will Target take other gift cards to buy gift cards? I tried that, too, and they would not.

Yes, I know. However, some of the cards were received "already active," and some required a phone call, but no ID was requested.

I have no problems with Winn Dixie taking Visa prepaid debit/gift cards for payment of gift cards.

Thanks all for all the suggestions.
This is what eventually happened:
I went to the TD Bank site and registered the TD Visa debit in my name. Then I went back to DVC, and this time it accepted the card, for $250!
So then I double checked the $75 Wyndham AmEx debit card on the AmEx web site. To my surprise, DVC had taken out $1, when I had called in to pay, and he told me it wasn't accepting the card! So why didn't he take the full $75?! A mystery.
Then I tried that one on DVC, and it worked!
All the other AmEx debit cards I then tried, all worked, except one.
So that worked out great: I'll get back $100 from one credit card, a Best Buy gift certificate for $50 from another, and unloaded a bunch of gift cards!

Target doesn't consider Disney giftcards to be "giftcards". They call them "entertainment" cards. That's why they will accept their own GC to pay for the Disney cards.

But they wouldn't accept another GC to pay for the Disney cards, and I doubt there are many other cards that they call "entertainment" cards that you could buy with a Target GC.

I know of no store that accepts a gift card they themselves didn't issue as payment for anything purchased in their store. The only exception to that are the pre-paid credit cards - for example, those VISA issues. Target gift cards can be used to purchase itunes cards, and various gift cards for restaurants, movie chains, etc. I've done it.
