Paying Adult Price for 6 Year Old?

I am trying to make a decision on what to do about my DS who is 6. She is not a very big eater, but she is very picky about what she does eat. She will eat chicken tenders, chicken breast, fish, steak, french fries, green beans, peas, and butterbeans. Thats about it. What I am thinking about doing is going ahead and paying the extra for her to eat of the adult menu, so that I can garentee she will atleast get one thing she likes. Also, I hate for me, her father, and brother (11) to be able to order any appetizer or dessert we want while she is stuck with tomato soup..YUCK! It would cost me about $100 to add her as an adult. Which would be better (and cheaper) ? To add her as adult, or pay OOP for her? Also, if I add her as adult, will that affect her park pass? Thanks for all of your help!:confused3

I don't believe they will allow you to add her as an adult... unless you were to state her age as 10 years old when making the reservation, and as you mentioned, end up paying 10+ ticket pricing for her too.

IMHO, I would go with the children's dining plan. The sit down restaurants are usually more than accomodating for all guests. Not that they will give you an adult meal for her, but certainly, will accomodate special requests if she will not eat any of the selections. Buffet and family style meals are obviously not an issue. Counter service selections may be more limited, but you could pay OOP if you need to on those occasions...

I can't imagine that you would not be able to find many of the items you listed to feed your 6yo--check menus and eat where these items are listed. There is no way a 6yo could break even with the adult DDP, jMHO. You will easily find these foods on the buffets for her and worse case use her CS to order breakfast and pay OOP for CS items a la carte. THe price difference between child DDP and adult DDP as well as child versus adult admission is totally not cost effective, again just MHO.

If they allow you to do this, and I think people have said they would, you would have several benefits. One, you order whatever she wants. Two, you can share, perhaps saving adult credits for a 2 signature meal somewhere. Three, she won't feel left out as you mentioned in your post. It may not even out dollar-wise, but those other benefits are worth something. I think you would find that you might be able to get by on 3 credits everywhere and split the food, if you can all agree on what you want. However, that may negate one of the benefits. There will be times, if you order 4 adult meals, that you will have A LOT of food left over.

I'd say just go ahead with the kids plan. When she doesnt like what is offered you can still use the kid credit to cover her drink and whatever else she may like from the kid menu and use the money you would have used to make her an adult to pay oop if the occasions arrise. You may also find that the three adult meals coupled with what she will eat off the kids menu is enough for everyone. This way you may spend less and you won't have to deal with any of the issues that might arrise. Since the meal plan states that children/adult credits are not interchangeable (does not just say adults can't use kids) I could see some cm's giving you greif for trying to use the adult credit for a kid..as if you were trying to treat someone not on the plan. I know not at all what you were trying to do, and i'm sure especially with the intervention of a manager it would be resolved in your favor but just another issue that could arrise. I think you would end up constantly explaining yourself. Like why the 6 year old is going through the gate on an adult ticket....

Thanks to all of you for your help. I think I will probably just keep her on as a child and pay OOP for what she needs. As for her being left out, She can just order my dessert and appetizer and I will eat whats left. Thanks again. Everyone on here is so nice and helpful.:grouphug:

This response may be too late....
Our DD9 is probably one of our most adventurous eaters and would not have been happy with the (at the time) extremely limited selections on the children's menus for TS. I debated what to do. I was told that, yes, I could upgrade her to an adult but she would then also be considered an adult for park admissions. We decided it was best to leave things as they were and just booked most of our TS meals at buffet-style places (chef mickey, trail's end, etc.) This worked out best for everyone.

Thanks Gardendame, I think thats what I am going to do. We have Hollywood and Vine-Fantasmic ressies and Crystal Palace breakfast ressies. I really want to eat at Le Cellier and Coral Reef. I will just pay OOP if they don't "satisfy" my little one. princess: I am still worried about HV buffet, since I heard such mixed reviews. We had Chef Mickey's last year and were very disappointed in the choices and how long the food sat out. All in all, I am just excited that I am going to be back in WDW. Not going to stress anymore!:yay:

Katrinao - check the menus out for Le Cellier and Coral Reef. The DIS homepage has a menu option and I found it very handy. In my opinion these two restaurants had some of the better children's dinner menus out there. My DD7 is excited because he will be able to order steak at Le Cellier.

I had the dining plan last year and some of the meals we had, my son got to choose from the adult menu. It all depends on the server. I didn't have any problems with food, we always seem to have too much no matter where we ate.
