Pay the extra for Poly or stay at POR?

Hi, this is my first post but I'm a longtime lurker.

So now my question. We have ressies at POR for dh and I and our 4 children, ages 8, 5, 3 and 20 months. I am now having reservations about doing the busses at POR with 4 kids, esp. late at night when they're tired and things are more crowded.

Do I pay the extra $1300 (Which is ALOT of money to us!) and change our ressies to the Poly, which I've always wanted to visit and it has the wonderful Monorail? Or chance it with POR?

Any advice or insight would be wonderful. :grouphug:

DH & I absolutely love both resorts. POR is beautiful & there is alot to do. We rent a car so buses are never an issue. We just stayed at the Poly for the first time in Sept. & loved that too. Being on the monorail is wonderful & we enjoyed sitting on the balcony relaxing. Nothing is wrong with looking at the castle from the pool either! My solution for our upcoming May trip is a split stay. We are doing POR for the first 2 nights & then the Poly for the last 4 nights. We just couldn't decide because we loved them equally as much. There is something very special about POR to me. It is quiet & peaceful. Quieter than the Poly. I found the Poly on the crowded side. People like to come check it out for the atmosphere & the restaurants. What about saving the $1300 on the Poly and renting a car? -then you wouldn't have to worry about transportation issue. I wouldn't consider staying at POR taking a chance. I think you would love it. Maybe think about the car thing-unless you really have your heart set on the Poly. So helpful!!!!! Let us know what happens. What time of year are you planning on?

I say stay with POR. $1300 is a lot of money, for some people that could be an entire vacation! No matter where you stay, there will probably be a transportation issue or two. Remember, you'd still have to take a bus to AK or MGM even at the Poly. Personally, for the rates of the WDW deluxes, I think they don't offer enough. Sure, the poly is nice, but I do not think it is $1300 nicer than POR.

We are going in 19 days. LOL.

There are two poly garden rooms available or there *were* about an hour ago. We are driving so we will have our car. My biggest concern is the MK, to and from. With 4 kids, a double stroller, and bags from our shopping, I'm stressed about the access onto the buses when they're busy.

Thanks so much for the help! I truly have heard good things about POR. Just wish it was on the Monorail. Heehee.

Have to write back & tell you that you will love POR. I almost want to stay there for our entire trip-sshhh, don't tell DH!!! I feel for you people with all the kid stuff in hand. Ok, I really don't, I'm glad it's not me!!!!!! Disney is a tough vacation. Kind of kicks you in the rear if you let it. It kicks me in mine anyway, & I don't have anyone to worry about besides myself & DH!! Yes the monorail is good for MK & Epcot only. I've struggled with this problem myself because it is alot of money. I wouldn't worry so much since you have your own car. That will make things a little easier. Have a great time. If you stay at POR, have the sweet potato pancakes at Boatwrights for breakfast & take the boat to DTD for a ride, even if you don't want to go down there. It's very pretty. If you stay at the Poly, have the macadamia pineapple pancakes for breakfast at Kona. I'm counting the days...159 more to go!!!

Are you comparing one room at POR to one room at the Poly or two rooms at POR to one room at the Poly.

Although both say they sleep 5 (plus one child under 3) the rooms at the Polynesian are much bigger, plus lots more drawers and closet space.

If you can comfortably afford the extra $1300 I would go with the Polynesian. It is soooo convenient using the monorail, especially when the kids fall asleep in the stroller. You also can watch Wishes and the ELP from the beach and the Polynesian. Nothing beats swimming and being able to see the castle.

If you can swing it - go for the Poly, you won't regret it!

I too wondered if you would be in one or two rooms.

If you are attempting 1 room at POR you are going to be very uncomfortable if it is for anything more than an overnight. Looking at your children's ages I'm assuming you would have 2 kids in 1 bed, the trundle pulled out AND a packn'play/or crib?

There really is VERY little floor space at POR and you will be tripping over things and people. If that is the case I vote for POLY hands down.

If you are planning 2 rooms at POR then I say just stick with that and use the car to get around. The buses are not fun with one kid, I can't imagine doing it with 4 and all your stuff. We rented a car when we stayed there and truly it was the best thing we could have done. It is so much easier to zip around property than to wait for a bus and hope for seats together.

Dh and I have decided to stay at POR for our next trip, but we will be leaving our youngest son with Grandma and Grandpa so we will have 3 kids & 2 adults. If you are used to sleeping in close quarters and don't mind going to bed early (with the kids) you will be ok. We stayed at Beach Club during our last trip and liked the larger room but we were still in one room.
I'm not much help here, sorry! Let us know what you decide as I was considering a split between poly/por

If you think spending the extra money per night will be worth it then you should switch to the Polynesian. If you think it's better off to save the money and stick with POR, then you should do that.

We stayed at the POR for one night a couple of years ago, and I have to agree that it was very COZY. There were five of us, 2 Adults, 3 Children and while it worked, I'm glad we basically just slept there. If you are just using the room for sleeping, then you will be okay, but crowded. It you plan on hanging out in the room, it might not be too comfortable. Think of a Motel 6 in size. And yes, there is very little floor space.

If you can afford it, you might want to think more of the Poly. You get larger beds, queen instead of doubles, plus a sofa bed (twin bed size) a good amount of floor space for a pack-n-play and a large bathroom.

POR has two double beds and a trundle bed. A plus is that you have two sinks on the outside of the bathroom so two people can handle teeth brushing and such while someone is in the shower. At the poly, the sink is in the bathroom.

Your kids will love the pool at POR. I would image with 4 children the bus can be difficult. Renting a car would most likely only cost $200 and parking is free for those who stay onsite. If you rent car you could easily make up the difference by dinning offsite a few times.

If it is just the busses then the money is a lot of difference. If you have your car then it would probably be better to drive to Epcot, MGM and AK. Poly would give you the monorail to MK and Epcot only. IMO the bus trip is not that bad at MK unless you leave at the busiest time (right after Spectromagic or Wishes). You will get a bigger, better room at Poly but you will still have a good time at POR with minimal other inconveniences. It's up to you whether that is worth the $1300. But also IMO you won't make a wrong move either way.

What about the All Star Music Family Suites. Just another idea, would have a lot more space.

Thanks everyone. I think we've decided to stay at POR. I realize it may be a bit crowded in the room but we will really only be sleeping there. 90% of our time at the world will be spent in the parks.

We will have our own car and I didn't realize parking was free for onsite guests so that helps!

Only 18 days! Woohoo!

We stayed at POR last year for 10 days, 2 adults, 3 kids. It was cozy, but we never felt too cramped. A little more drawer space would have been nice, though. Poly is my favorite, but $1300 will buy some great souvenirs and dinners out!:goodvibes

With 4 kids, a double stroller, and bags from our shopping, I'm stressed about the access onto the buses when they're busy.

No need to carry your bags from shopping! Since you are staying on-site those can be delivered straight to your room!

Have a magical stay!:wizard:

Sorry if I missed this, but how many nights are you staying? If it were me, I would see the price differential per night and then make my decision.
