I have something listed on Craigs List. A potential buyer is asking me to ship the item and she will pay through pay pal. Besides the trouble of going to the post office and shipping, what are the risk of me doing this for her.
I never received payment through pay pal. Is it easy, anything I need to know about how to do this???
Thanks

You did not say if you have a pay pal acount? That would make a big difrence on doing the transaction with her. How did you list payment to be paid?

One risk: Paypal payments can be reversed by the sender, so you may not get the money, but they will have the item.

Yes, I do have an account. Thanks for letting me know about the pay pal reversal. I thought that was the case, but I was not sure. I think I will tell her to forget it!
Thanks

Are you selling an electronics item? I have had this happen to me every time I post an electronics item on Craigslist. The first time it happened, I didn't know any better and I agreed to accept payment via Paypal and ship to Long Island, NY. Later that day I got another e-mail from this buyer stating that she paid me double the amount I was asking with a confirmation from Paypal, but now wants me to ship it to her husband overseas. When I checked my Paypal account there was no money received. I replied that I never agreed to ship overseas and did not proceed with the transaction. I reported it to spoof@paypal.com, but it still continues to happen every time I post an electronics item. So be careful.

Please double check with paypal - I do not think payments can be reversed by the sender. They can be cancelled by the receiver, but not reversed.

It can be reversed - I've had it happen twice with eBay sales long after the fact. The bank reversed the money that was sent to me becase of "fraudulent activity" on the buyer's account - this was almost 2 months after the sale was completed. I ended up without the item, and without the cash.

What I was saying is that the Sender themselves cannot reverse via Paypal.
Once you hit send it is out there. If the seller does not accept it in 30 days, then you can get it back or if the seller cancels it. (This happened to me once, I paid twice by accident and I could not recall the one payment).

As one who's lost money thru several paypal reversals over the years, you most certainly can reverse it with a simple 30 second call to your credit card issuer or bank. Even with ebay, the seller assumes the majority of the risk when accepting paypal - not the buyer.

DD9 is very into AG and I've talked with two people since Thanksgiving who admit to searching craigslist in major cities all over the country to find AG deals, then contacting sellers to ship it to them - often at a lower price than listed by offering to buy extra items not yet listed. One lady who lived in IL even said she only paid by paypal b/c she knew she could dispute the charge after she got the items.

IMO, it's bad enough to rip off people in your own state but downright reprehensible & pathetic to search the entire nation to do it. Really sad what some people think is acceptable these days...:sad2:
