Pay cash for weekends?

I've kept the same room before with an AP rate and DVC points, but the reservations need to show the name as the same on both reservations. We once almost had a mix-up because one was booked in my husband's name and one was in mine - the front desk wouldn't have matched them if I hadn't come down and talked to a front desk manager the day before check-out. He told me to make sure those names match exactly on the reservations. Of course, they can't absolutely promise you won't have to move, but it's always worked out for us.

In jan, we are staying last 3 nights at FQ 96$ a night, after 7 nights in a 1 bed room at BC. Couldnt justify going longer on points, as it Feb is toooooo costly, and didn't want a studio the whole time. I think fri, sat n sun was about 45 points, and 306$ 3 extra nights at fq, (fri sat n sun) works. I tried renting points at last min, but couldnt get 3 nights at the same resort, dont want to change again. Seems like good deal 2 me! If it were a higher end resort, poly, contempory, bc, it wouldnt have worked out to be cheaper than the 40% off pin code. This wouldnt work in the middle of a ressie, as you would have to change a bunch of times, but for the beggining or the end.. seems good.

Sometimes it makes sense for us to pay cash rather than give up a large chunk of points. For example, in January we are staying 2 nights (Fri. and Sat.) in a 1BR Savannah View room at AK. We would normally spend 76 points to do so, but instead we are using an annual passholder 45% discount to pay cash for the room, which makes it less than $7+ a point. I find a lot of people who are DVC members and annual passholders forget to check annual passholder discounts, which are often substantial, especially like the ones offered this January. There are even better deals to be found if you want to stay at other non-DVC resorts like the GF, depending on the time of year.

We like using DVC cash to stay in studios at Hilton Head.

We like to check-in on the Friday after Thanksgiving and leave on Monday. We'll use points on Friday and Sunday nights, and get the Saturday night for $81!

Fabulous 4 day vacation for about 30 points and $81!!! - WOW!!
Being at a resort that you don't mind cooking too! Double WOW!!

Debating this right now...we are booked on points for a 1BR SV BWV June 6-11. We need the Friday and Sat. night before too (June 4 & 5). We don't have enough pts to include those weekend nights so we want to do a cash ressie somewhere. Low and behold, I received a 30/35/40 percent off PIN code!

After looking at the discounts, we can stay at POFQ for the 2 nights for $300. We can stay in a studio at BCV or BWV for $500+/2 nights. Or we can stay in a 1BR BWV for $310+ night. If we wouldn't have to move and could keep the 1BR I'd probably just cough up the extra and stay in the 1BR BWV. We would LOVE not having to switch rooms much less resorts.
