Pay as you go phone plan...plantinumtel

DD wants a phone with a keyboard for easy texting....currently she has a Tracfone. I heard they will be having new phones soon? She got $ for Christmas and wants to buy a $100 phone with Plantinumtel which I have never heard of. On checking our coverage areas it says the coverage is "fair" . The phone was not and is not intended for her to text friends as much as it is to be able to contact me when she is done at her events. Anyone have experience with this company? Tracfone costs $100 for a year service and 1000 minutes (double minutes phone), I doubt I can find anything cheaper.
