Paula Deen made a turducken on her show.

As you may know, we Canadians had our Thanksgiving last Monday. On her cooking for Thanksgiving show, Paula Deen featured a turducken. She alternated the layers of duck and chicken with stuffing, then rolled the whole turkey back up.

I only know about turduckens because of the DIS and past Thanksgiving topics. I kind of didn't believe turduckens were real, but that show convinced me otherwise. It really looked delicious. I'm still wondering who in the heck thought up this creation! I doubt I'll ever eat one in my life.

Her other turkey was deep-fried and it only took 45 minutes to cook!

I believe it is a Louisiana creation. A few years ago Costco had frozen turduckhens that were wonderful (the duck was the innermost, then layer of hen, then the turkey). Central Market has them every year, but they stuff the middle with rice. Rice is nice, but duck is better.

Both delicacies come out of South Louisiana and the Cajun food revival. The "turducken" was invented by Paul Prudhomme as a specialty for his New Orleans restaurant K-Paul's Kitchen.

I don't know how Paula Deen stuffed hers, but in Prudhomme's original version the chicken is stuffed with shrimp dressing, the Duck is stuffed with sausage dressing, and the turkey is stuffed with cornbread dressing, so the dish effectively has six layers.

Fried turkeys come out of S. Louisiana, too. We all own boiling rigs for crawfish in season, and it was a natural progression to put oil in them and fry a turkey to save time. My family has been frying exclusively for over 15 years now.

I think everyone should try a turducken at least once.......and thanks to the dual miracles of the internet and 2nd day air.....we all can!

For my money, the chicken sampler was the best eats for me (a little duck goes a loooooong ways)

I don't really care for turduckin, but I love fried turkey. My family alternates between smoked and fried turkey. When I'm lucky my dad makes both.
