Has anybody been able to find an answer whether passports will be required to fly from Buffalo to Orlando after the new rules comes into effect in January? I have been all over the us government websites and they only talk about passports needed at the air port of entry.

You don't need passports to drive across. You will need photo ID at both the border and at the airport.

It seems clear enough that I am fine crossing the border by car with regular ID, but not sure what would happen at the Buffalo airport if I tried to check in without a passport?

You DO NOT need to present a passport to fly from one destination to another WITHIN the US. The airport staff and security are verifying your identity but they do not require proof of citizenship.

That sounds promising, but I wonder if that will change as of January 23, when the new rules come in?

They will not. The rules are about international not domestic travel. Eventually you will have to show your passport when you drive across the border but that's not until Jan 1, 2008.

I was chatting with the airport limo guy a few weeks ago. He was complaining that soon he would have to get a passport to drive across the border.

Was he mistaken?

That's right, if your flying by air out of Canada you will need a passport starting in Jan. If you are going by land ( Car, bike, walking, skateboard,ECV, segway) :moped: you dont need a passort till 2008.
When you get to Buffalo airport your drivers licence will be what you need to prove you are who you say you are. :cool2: If you however decide while in the states to leave the states and go on a cruise lets say, you will need a passort to do that.

NO PASSPORT REQUIRED TO DRIVE OVER THE BORDER!! FOR SURE!
This question has been on my mind too , enough that I got our passport applications filled out , had pictures done for all 5 of us , ( free through CAA if you book a Disney package) but did not want to pay the almost $300 "Just in case" and the hassle of waiting at the CRAZY BUSY passport office.
Imagine what I could buy in Disney instead.!
The Buffalo Airport website has a section for Canadian travellers and it says ON THE WEB SITE that passports are not required for domestic flights.
Believe me, I photocopied it , just in case....:thumbsup2

I can't find a site on the Buffalo Airport website which talks about the passport issue for Canadians. Does anyone else see it?

Yes he was confused. Driving across the border doesn't apply until 2008.

We are in the same situation. :thumbsup2

Driving from NS to Boston and flying from BOS to MCO. I too had many questions. After speaking to Passport Canada I was directed to the US Embassy in Halifax who confirmed we only need BC's and photo ID to drive across and it was up to the individual airline in the US as to what we would need however passports were not manditory.

That being said, I called Delta and they confirmed DH and I would only need a photo ID and our 3 DD's (12,10 & 4) wouldn't require anything. To be on the safe side we're having them photo ID's done up before we go.

Good Luck!

On the home page there is a list of links on the left hand side. At the bottom is a Canadian Information section. The section name is a link.

I see the website for the Buffalo Airport, buffaloairport.com, but on the Canadian Information tab they just have directions.

I wonder if they have taken the passport information off?

Its ok, dont worry you will be ok till 2008 if you cross by land.

Well they still have the single sentence saying you don't need a passport. That's all I have ever seen. I don't know whether or not there was more information there when son3disfan looked at the page.

"Please be advised that you are not required to have a passport to enter the United States."

Cut and Pasted for you.
Click on the CANADIAN INFORMATION TAB ON LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER

The rule is pretty simple.

You need a passport to enter the USA via air or cruise ship.

Entering via land does not require a passport for Canadians (at least those Canadian born in the Canada -- naturalized Canadians may require a passport).

For flying out of Buffalo, you have already crossed the border, so not further proof of citizenship will be required.
