We are having trouble getting passport photos taken for 18 month old daughters. The rest of the family got theirs taken at Walgreens. Walgreens said they don't take infant photos because they always get returned. We have called Sears and JC Penney's both said they can't take them because their cameras can't zoom in close enough to take the pictures. Anyone know where we can go to get infant passport photos taken? TIA

If you have a digital camera you can do it yourself.

According to a previous post:

A cost saver....you can take your own digital photo. You no longer have to have one professionally taken. Because of the digital age, you can produce 2 identical photos in the correct size, print them out on a photo quality printer and send them in. We've done this a couple of times. There are instructions right on the application form as to what size and quality if you do them yourselves. All you need is a white or off white background. Easy as pie....and cheap!

My son was 3 months old when he had his first passport photo taken (1973) ... I just held him up in front of the camera ... you can see my hands in the photo.

But I'd say using a digital camera would be the way to go nowadays.

DrCavin, thanks for reposting that information. I was the OP with that info and was just about to do the same thing again. The best part of digital is that if you don't like the way it looks, or...in the case of little ones....if they squirm or whatever....you can keep taking them until you get one with the right view! The best part is that if it isn't quite the right size, it is easy to zoom and crop until you have it right. My digital photos have always turned out brighter with better color and better looks on our faces than those taken at the TA or at Walgreens.

Thanks. I'll call Fed/kinkos and the UPS store. I tried with my sisters help this afternoon taking digital photos. We got frustrated and gave up. Maybe my DH will have more patience.

We had our DD's photo taken at Costco (she was probably 20 months at the time). They used a digital camera, and with 3 of us (me, DH & the Costco person) we managed to get a really cute photo in about 10 minutes. Plus, they're cheaper than most places.

A little tip i used when DS was small and we had to get his photos done was to put a white sheet behind him in his car seat so there was a blank background then hold the carseat on the stool in the photo booth ...not sure if you have them over there but this worked well for us and avoided having to hold him up, hands in shot etc.. :)

Thanks to Memaw2Wm's tip about holding them up we now have passport photos we took on the digital camera :cool1: Before I was trying to hold onto them while they stood up. In fact when I showed DH photos from me and DS and DD that Walgreens took. He wanted to redo them on the digital camera. They look that bad. LOL.

Strap them in their stroller and take the picture. It worked well for my 18-month-old.

Good luck!

I guess I was lucky. The post office where I got my 15 month old (2001) passports took the photos there. I also got my photo done there. Maybe you should see if they take them. It sure is easier than trying to cart a baby everywhere and then end up taking them to the post office anyway. Good Luck

we just got ours done at Walgreens. the only hard part was that I had to hold her up. The first one didn't turn out but they took a second shot without any problem. the passport people didn't seem to mind the lack of perfection, understanding that she is an infant!!! Maybe try another Walgreens!?!?!?!?

Remember passport photos have to be printed on paper that will hold up to the high heat they use to laminated them, not sure if all digital photo paper is up to that task. The luggage stores around here all do passport photos for $5, don't think I'd bother doing it myself.

Problem #1 What did you use for a back ground in your digital photos? We took the twins pictures in front of a white door at our house. When we printed them the background looks grey. Even with brightening the photo the background is not white.
Problem #2 While getting the photos the right size we were looking at DS 5 and DD 3 passport photos we had done at Walgreens. Their faces are not 1 inch in size in the photos. They are 7/8 of an inch. Does anyone know if these photos will be OK or if they will get rejected? Do they tell you when you apply at the post office if your pictures are OK?
TIA again.

Try Costco. We got our DD's pic there. She's 2 1/2 and the guy who took the pic got it done in about 2 minutes. They use a digital camera and only cost $5.00 for the two pics. Her's came out so cute, I wanted to keep it. It also only took exactly 3 weeks to get her passport too. We applied in the middle of May and had it the last week of May.

I emailed Disney because we will be taking out 1 year old and this is the reply regarding birth certificates for children:

Guests under 18 will be permitted to board with just their Certified Birth
Certificate if travelling with a parent or legal guardian.

Unfortunately there's no Costco here. I am going to try other Walgreens. We spent so much time the last two days trying to get the photos and size them and print them. We really don't have any more time to devote to passport photos with taking care of four children.

stars918 Are you travelling before the end of this year? It would sure be easier and cheaper if they only need their birth certificates. When I called DCL they said all of our children needed passports. Are cruise is in Jan of 2006.

try AAA. our AAA here takes passport photos for free if you're a plus member. Every AAA is different so check w/ your local office for availability and pricing!
