Even though Disney does a great job of giving you a lot to look at while standing in line, the fact is that sometimes the wait is one of the worst parts of the whole trip. In many ways it is like a long car ride - necessary but frustrating. When in the car we have found various ways to make the time go by quicker, and I think some of these same methods can be adapted to standing in line.
Here are a couple of games to help make this waiting time a little more beareable.
The first is to play Sports clothes. You can either do this as a team effort, or in a competetive way. What you do is look for jerseys or caps or bags, etc... that have various sports teams listed, and keep track of which ones you have found. Try and find all the NFL teams, NBA teams, MLB teams, etc... It is surprising to see just how many different ones you can find.
An alternative way of playing this game is substituting places for Teams. Try to find as many US cities or states as you can. Or as many different countries, etc...
You might even want to bring a pen and paper to help you keep track of what you find. With as many guests as pass through WDW on a daily basis, it is amazing how quickly your lists can fill up.

We do Double Fisted Scissors/Paper/Rock. Try it. It's harder than it seems.

Just listening to my teen talk is enterainment enough. Something about Disney opens him and his friends up, with the most astonishing results. I guess I'm strange, but I like that time in line. :)

While in line my family usually just makes idle conversation. Though a lot of the time I'm looking for little details the imagineers have put into the queues. The first time I rode EE I waited for an hour and a half in the regular line instead of getting an FP because I wanted to see how they themed (the answer is spectacularly).

This is what we do. Waiting in lines is something we don't mind doing because we love seeing all the detail...it's part of the entire show. When we rode EE last week, it was a walk on ride so we let tons of people just pass us up so we could spend time looking at all the detail.

We love people watching while standing in lines, we also check out the very detailed areas of waiting.....finding a few hidden mickey's!

We just talk to each other, about our vacation, about stuff we need to do at home, work stuff, anything really. DH works long hours and it is a nice way to get caught up on things.

Not to mention that it gives us plenty of thread ideas for the DIS when we come home. . .

man, I can't stand fat foreign smelly people with handicapped children being pushed around in electronic strollers right up your ankle while drinking and smoking in line just before they grab their re-fillable mug and take off for some pool hopping. . .

:rotfl2: :rotfl: I think I've read a thread on every single item above!!!

What we do on lines?
stuff like the other posters stated, but one thing I like about standing in lines is the togetherness..
I try to hug my kids/husband at least once a day, :lovestruc especially at bedtime, and when we're in church my daughters or husband will reach for my hand or lean on me, cuddle, etc. :grouphug: And that's one thing I also love about being on lines, because we wind up holding/hugging/being close together more than a regular day
and you don't have to even say a word

My ds is 4, so I try to pack little toys in his fanny pack to occupy him. One of his favorite things is pipe cleaners. They are light and don't occupy much space, but he can play with them for a LONG time.

All those ideas sound great. My family and I love to people watch we do it everywhere we go. We love seeing different ways people so things the neat things people wear. Different cultures and customes.....It always fun to see how unique each person is.........But keep in my if you see something about someone you find strange or funny remember they are probably looking at you thinking the same. Lord knows there's plenty about me and my brood to entertain for hours....10 more Days till WDW... yeah :cool1: :Pinkbounc

Two words: PAL MICKEY
Say, what do you call Pluto at a campfire? Hot dog! Get it? Ha Ha Ha!
I can't ever get enough of that hilarious mouse. Actually I could, but my boys couldn't. Mickey kept them entertained for 6 days straight. Best $70 I spent... ::MickeyMo

I find that everyone thinks I am really funny and therefore I feel the need to speak really loud and make amusing statements about all kinds of things while in line. Everyone really seems to enjoy how funny I am! :rotfl2:

Seriously, I love to look at all the detail while waiting in line, I people watch, make idle conversation and discuss what to do after the ride.

since I am solo, my last trip I took Sudoku, that helped pass the time alot

What is Sudoku?

My DD8 has requested I pack a small notebook and pencil/pen in my bag for the trip. She wants to be able to draw/write when the urge hits her (which is quite often!). I imagine she'll be drawing things she sees and journaling about our trip while in line, at least part of the time.

Don't worry...she will be careful of where she's walking and not run into people, or hold up the line... ;)

Never mind, I figured out what Sudoku is. In fact, I bought a spiral bound Sudoku book for my DD8 to use on the plane next week. I think she'll love it, and so will I! :thumbsup2

Who stands in long lines, use Fastpass!!!

Seriously when having to stand in line:
1. we look for Hidden Mickey's
2. talk about where we are going to head to next
3. tell the DS's NO again for the hundredth time that they cannot get another souvenir because they already went thru their money allotment for the day
4. hug and kiss my DS's because in line they cannot "get" away from me
5. talk with others in line
6. watch others and see that they are going thru the same thing as our family or having similar conversations with their children
7. and most important, just really love being together with my family and how lucky we are to be at WDW again.

Usually we just people watch.

But this year maybe we will be lucky enough to be in line with Smooshdog and be entertained :rotfl:

When DH & I go alone we each bring our own paperback novel in our fanny pack. When we run out of small talk, out they come... time flies by.

Doesn't work when DS is along -- your reading gets interrupted every other sentence. :goodvibes
