1) Our APs expired in April, we are planning to go back in October. If I renew now, will they expire from the time I renew them or in October when we first use them again?

2) We bought one premium pass to have the parking but have since started staying across the street every time. Can I renew this pass as a deluxe?

3) We are planning to buy tickets for Mickey's Halloween party. Will we be able to get the AP discount if we end up having to buy new APs?

Thank you!

If you renew APs and get the renewal discount then they retain the same expiration date. You can renew at any level, the discount is for the level you're buying, not what you had. However, since your APs are expired you can't renew them, you have to buy new APs. If you buy online or retail the 1 year won't start until you activate them.

As SMD said, at this point, the renewal questions and downgrading are pretty much a moot point because, unfortunately, you're outside your renewal window. You'll need to purchase a new AP (or tickets) for your October trip. At that point, the expiration date will be based on the first day you use the ticket.

That's a good question...last year, in order to buy the tickets online, you needed to have a valid AP. So at this point, you wouldn't be able to buy them online because you don't have a valid AP anymore. I don't know if you could call and order the tickets at the discounted rate/early release date, but you could always try. Otherwise, if you have a Disney Visa, that had the same discount/early release as the APs and DVC offers.

If your passes expired in April, it seems you may have already lost the window to renew. Personally, I would just get new passes for October so that the effective date began when I started using it in October...plus you can purchase Deluxe passes instead of Premium.
Since you do not have a current AP, you will not have the option to pre-purchase tickets for MHP. If you are a DVC member or have Disney Visa you can still get tickets before the general public.

Actually, even if you were within the renewal window, it is better to get new APs in October because renewals keep the same expiration date so your renewed APs would expire next April. In October you will have to pay full price for the APs, but they will be valid through next October.

This is more of a tag on question, so my apologies for butting in. Does it cost less to renew an existing AP? As of next week, we will be new, first time AP holders. We just assumed if we want AP's again next year we would pay the same price. Does it cost less to renew them before the expiration date of the current pass? For the original poster, what would the advantage have been for renewing before the April expiration date vs. letting it expire and buying a new one when she next visits DL in October, which is 6 months later?

You are offered a small discount when renewing within a certain window of your expiration date (sorry I don't recall the details of the discount other than it seemed minimal). If you know you won't return for several months it's most likely more advantageous to let the passes expire and re-purchase passes when you return so that you have a full year after that.

There will undoubtedly be a price increase on APs in the next year. Any renewal discount will be on the new price. It's also worth noting that it used to be $20 across the board but it was recently increased for deluxe and premium and decreased for so cal select. It's possible it could change again in the future.
