We are a family of 5 and have had our ADR's made for months. Now with about a week to go Grandma has decided she may want to go. SO.... my question is since we are already a party of 5 and most likely to be sit at a 6 top table is is necessary to call back and modify our dining or just let it be? My inclination is to just let it be and say plus 1 when we check in, we have just character and world showcase restaurants scheduled, no sig dining or dinner shows, what do you think?

I wish you luck, but to be honest your Grandma may be turned away.

With the fact of Free Dining going on the places will be packed and even though you are right about being sat at a 6 top table...there are firecodes that have to be followed.
If they are booked to capacity with people, even though there is room at your table they could and will most likely refuse because of these firecodes.

I would have a back up plan for Grandma just in case. And I would certainly call or look online for adrs that would accomadate your true party size.

Good luck and have a good trip!

This is likely to cause you a lot more problems than you think. Your best bet is to try to make some ADR's for your new party of 6, but don't cancel any old ones until you secure new ones. The good news is that if Grandma decides not to come, you won't have any problem seating a party of 5 with an ADR for 6!

You can ask at the podium if they will seat your larger party, but in my experience, the restaurants are overbooked during free dining and they will most likely not be able to help you.

My brother unexpectedly joined us for our spring break trip this year and turned our party of five into a party of six. I re-booked what I could, but what I couldn't, I just crossed my fingers! We didn't have any trouble, even at Le Cellier and CRT. I just showed up, said I had an extra person, and the hostess said no problem. Hopefully your experience will be similar!

PS--When I called Disney Dining, the representative did give the spiel about fire codes and said my extra person would be turned away, etc. I just warned my brother up front that I wasn't able to add him to all of our reservations and that he may be turned away. He was fine with that, and we definitely lucked out . . . I think going from a party of 5 to a party of 6 isn't that big of deal, because most tables are designed for 2, 4, or 6 . . . I've never seen a dedicated table for 5!

PSS--We went during super-busy spring break (during the 4 nights, 3 free promo) and still didn't have a problem!

Thanks. I didn't think of the fire code although I figure most of that comes out in the wash. An extra here, one less the next group. But I won;t argue the possibility of that becoming an issue. I think I will just call disney dining and see if most of my ADR's just can't be ammended now from 5 to 6. I'll see how it goes and let everyone know.

This same thing happen to us once and if you are as lucky as we were, you will have no problems. I wouldn't even call and waste the time to change the Ressies, just show up and tell them its 6 now instead of 5. I also know other people that have added much more then 1 person and still have had no problem...(even with "FREE DINING") Do not loss sleep over it. Yeah there is always a a chance you get a cast member who says no, however I think you will find that to be rare. Do not loss any sleep over it... Have a great trip....
