Party favors necessary for adult birthday party?

For my children's parties I always have a party favor (something like a personalized candy, etc). We are throwing my mom a 60th birthday party at a restaurant at 6pm. Is it necessary to give out a party favor?

I don't think they're at all necessary, but depending on what you give out, they definitely can be fun. Since it's at a restaurant, your choices are limited, if you do decide to give something.

When we threw my dad's 70th birthday party, I had custom M&Ms made with his face on them, but we had them in bowls on the tables during cocktail hour, and where the kids were. You could put them in little bags to take home.

Party favors are optional, not mandatory, even for showers and weddings. It is entirely up to you. They're much more common at children's parties, bridal and baby showers and at weddings.

I'm an event planner. The vast majority of adult parties that I plan, outside of weddings and baby showers, do not include favors.

If you decide to do favors, edible favors are a great way to go.

They tasted like regular M&Ms. We also ordered direct. How weird!
