that it's HIS trip.

February 14 – 18, 2006

CAST:
DGM-Darling Grandma (me)
DGS-Darling Grandson (5)

Background: DGS has been begging to go to Disney World for several months. Our last trip was April 2005. We have never gone this long between trips and it was showing (for both of us). If you read my “lesson learned” post on the family board you will note that I made the huuuugggggeee mistake of telling DGS that this would be “his” trip. That statement was brought up to me several times during the trip (usually in the variety of “ I don’t wanna do xxxx I wanna xxx and you SAID this was MY trip”).

Details:
Airtran Airways $59 each way (ATL – MCO)
Alamo Car rental: $138.00 for compact for 5 days
Pop Century: $59.00 per night (AP rate)

MAGICAL MOMENT: DGS was singing along 'Wishes, Wishes..."and then he looked at me and said "Grandma--I made a wish with my heart and it came true--I'm at Disney World". Does he know how to MELT his Grandma????

Wed. Feb. 15: Magic Kingdom:
DGS can't believe that Mickey called him! Time to wake up!!!! Mickey waffles at the food court (which we ate in the lobby movie area) and it's off to the Magic Kingdom.

We hopped around the park a lot, due to the fact that I was letting the 5 year old 'lead' (after all it was "his" trip). Basically--our day went: Met Stitch and got autograph and pics, Buzz, Buzz, check out the new playground by pooh (Pooh's Thoughtful Spot), Peter Pan, Peter Pan, Peter Pan, Pooh, Race track , race trak, Toontown where we met Snow White, played bashful with Cinderella, met Goofy, Minnie and Pluto and skipped the Pooh characters. Then it was Goofy's barnstormer, Goofy's barnstormer (do you see a pattern--pay attention you will see the pattern repeat and repeat), and then a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority--where DGS USED to be be counted on to "drift off" if we rode it long enough--after 2x on this he got off. He was getting cranky so off to Cosmic Rays for lunch. Where he promptly lay down on the bench and fell asleep. So Grandma ate lunch and then I just sat there (probably drifting in and out myself) for an hour and a half. After his nap, fed DGS a late lunch then headed back to Fantasyland for Mickey's Philharmagic and then Mickey's Philharmagic. Then Dumbo. Then it was Big Thunder Railroad, Big Thunder Railroad, Big Thunder Railroad, Big Thunder Railroad and Big Thunder Railroad. yes--FIVE TIMES--Grandmas was beat up!! Then Splash Mountain. Just once. We tried to do the Tiki Room but it was closed. We also saw Cinderellabration at the Castle sometime in the afternoon. Then Buzz, and Buzz. Then it was off to Casey's for hotdogs anf french fries and grabbing a spot for Wishes. DGS knows this song too and was singing along 'Wishes, Wishes..."and then he looked at me and said "Grandma--I made a wish with my heart and it came true--I'm at Disney World". Does he know how to MELT his Grandma????

Back to the room where we try to stay up for Illuminations fireworks but at 9:00 I tell him--lights out--tv off. He says ok and rolls over and goes to sleep. I lay in bed going "Turn the tv back on--LOST is on. Turn the tv back on..LOST is on" then I say "the heck with it" and I go to sleep too!!!!!

I love your trip report title...been there, done that one myself with DD. What wonderful memories you're making with your grandson! :wizard:

Holy smokes, Grandma! You fit all that in a day! Wow! I'm tried just reading it, and I'm a theme park commando.

Yes--I am proud to be raising a theme park commando!!!!!

Hey--his Dad is tired of Disney, doesn't get the 5 weeks vacation per year that I do, costs more to take (he's an adult vs a child) and I need someone to share my joy with!!!!!

Don't know what I'm going to do when DS marries and I have more grandchildren. I guess I better get another job!!!!!!!
