Part 5
April 25, 2005
Finally. 38 months since my last day in the Magic Kingdom. Finally I was going back. The anticipation was huge. I was so excited. I woke up very early again, and hauled Laura and Allison out of bed. Both wanted to see the 7 am geyser, since I had told them all about the one the day before. So we headed out, early, and got there in time to see it. It was foggy this morning, and we wondered how that would affect our plans to take the boat to the Contemporary before hopping the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. BTW, I have a monorail obsession. Im known for saying that Please Stand Clear of the Doors spiel right along with the recording. I had planned before this trip, exactly how to utilize the monorail the most during our vacation. Thankfully the fog burned off and our plans went smoothly. We caught the boat to the Contemporary, and got to the platform just as the monorail was pulling in. I stepped onboard and was in heaven. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom with plenty of time to make it through the bag check and ticket checker, and still had a bit of a wait before the opening. Wed never seen this opening before. When the mayor and dancers started singing and dancing Mom started crying. I had chills down my back. We were REALLY there. When the gates opened we headed upstairs, planning to catch the first train to Frontierland, to beat the crowds to Splash Mountain. It was chilly that morning, but we were ready for it. Too bad no one told us they send that first train out with no passengers on it. It was another 20 minutes before the train returned. We boarded and finally headed for Frontierland. Hit the bathrooms, then handed off the bags to mom. Walked right on Splash Mountain. Had the front two rows. Got off and got right back on. Again, we walked right on. After Splash Mountain we hit the Briar Patch, looking for a Pooh Bear postcard to send home to the little boy I babysit for. Then it was time for a morning snack for Mom and stepdad (it was only 10 am), and off to the Liberty Belle Riverboat, with a little side trip to the Frontierland Trading Post for pins. After the riverboat we decided to beat the lunch crowds, and we headed for Columbia Harbour House, where my UNH (University of NH) sweatshirt became and introduction topic for the first time of the trip (but not the last). Turns out the family behind us was from NH. I did a good job advertising UNH in Disney, and as a result we met a good amount of NH folks.
I should mention before we went for lunch we went and got fast passes to see Mickeys Philharmagic. We went back to watch it right after we ate lunch and it certainly lived up to its reviews. I was very impressed. If we had spent another day in MK we would have gone back without a doubt.
After Philharmagic we grabbed fast passes for Peter Pan and headed for Tomorrowland. Got in that awful line for the Speedway, but it actually moved pretty quickly and we had ridden within half an hour. Hopped on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, for a quick spin, then went and got fastpasses for Winnie the Pooh. Crowds were big, but we did pretty well avoiding them. After grabbing fast passes Allison and Laura got back in line for the speedway and mom, stepdad and I went and got seats to watch the Londonderry High School Jazz Band (from Londonderry NH) perform in Cosmic Rays. Excellent performance. Venue could have been better.
