Part 2 Epcot – 1990’s plan. Some pavilions where in the plans and never built.
Dateline- Orlando Sentinel newspaper article as it appeared on Monday, January 15, 1990
Found this article I saved the other day and thought it would be interesting to see what was planned.
It has artist renderings by Walt Disney CO. and source is Walt Disney world
Title of article is - Walt Disney world in the 1990s
**Part 2 Epcot**
Picture: At Epcot – Matterhorn will tower over Swiss pavilion. (Drawing shows the Matterhorn in the background with two countries in front of it - can’t tell which two.)
1992: Various enhancements to Future World portion of park. Details not disclosed.
1994: New 3-D musical movie by George Lucas, creator of Star Wars.
Late 1990s: Soviet Pavilion; Swiss pavilion with a Matterhorn Mountain Thrill ride; Journeys into Space pavilion featuring outer-space experience.

I would have loved to see the Matterhorn but if was too big would it take away from the other countries?

Just wanted to point out that these three did come to reality.

Could you scan the pics.

I never saw a Musical by George Lucas. I know he helped out with "Star tours" over at Disney-MGM. Do you remember where it was? I will try to add the pictures over the weekend.

There was also an African pavilion planned, while Morocco is an African country...what was planned was an area with several reed/grass covered huts, more of a Savannah-type theme. It was introduced by Alex Haley in the EPCOT grand opening special that was hosted by Danny Kaye and a very young Drew Barrymore.

Captain EO starring Michael Jackson was directed by George Lucas. It was shown in the Journey into Imagination pavillion.

Thank you, I didn't put the two together. I saw Captain EO a couple of times but I forget that George Lucas was involved.

We were there when they were promoting the Russian and Swiss pavillions... they sold buttons and t-shirts. It's a shame they didn't come to be. A new pavillion or two would sure be great.
