Part 16

Sunday, May 1, 2005

So we headed for the car. Nearly got run over by some man in a minivan who doesn’t understand the concept of pedestrians having the right of way. But we survived and made it to the rental car. Climbed in and headed for the airport.

Along the way stepdad missed the exit. As a word of caution, it’s about 10 miles after the airport exit before the next exit. We had plenty of time so it wasn’t an issue, but don’t miss the exit if you’re late. We finally got turned around and headed in the right direction. Made it to the airport and dropped off the rental. Since we had our boarding passes and our luggage was in the hands of Disney we set off for security. Once again we made it through security with no issues (2 for 2 is a first for us). Hopped on the monorail for the quick, sad ride to the gate.

When we got to the gate we had about 2 hours left before our flight left. It was time to do homework. Believe me, Latin translations are no easier 1000 miles from home in an airport than they are in school. But the time passed and the homework got finished. The plane arrived and we boarded. Window seat for me again (yay). Got in the air and the pilot said he’d have us in Boston in 2 hours and 10 minutes. Umm excuse me. That’s an HOUR ahead of schedule. Haven’t seen that before. Guess what. The pilot was right and we touched down very early.

And then the uhhh excitement began. When we touched down we heard “Welcome to Boston where it is currently 49 degrees (WHAT?!). You’re baggage may be claimed on the lower level at baggage claim D”. Ok, with the exception of that weather, no problem. BTW, I was in capris and that UNH sweatshirt again. As we pulled up to the gate the pilot had a correction for us, “Sorry folks, we apologize for the confusion but your luggage will be at claim B as in boy”. Alright so we’ll go to claim b. Still no big deal.

But this is Boston. Confusion is a way of life. Major confusion is what they strive for, both at the airport and on the roads (Big Dig anyone?)

The whole plane empties out and we move as a mass to claim B. We hang out for about 20 minutes there before an announcement comes over the PA system, “All passengers from flight 212 from Orlando your luggage can be claimed at baggage claim D, as in David, in the lower level”. Excuse me? That’s our flight. So we move, as a mob to claim D. Scare the living daylights out of a janitor who’s cleaning the floor. Hang around claim D for awhile before some guy in a suit comes because he can’t understand why the mob is at claim D. “What’s everyone doing here? This man is cleaning the floors, you’re in the way. Your luggage is coming in at claim B”. You’ve really got to be kidding me. We just made the 5 mile walk from claim B. You want us to go back now? Yeah, they did. So the mob moved, all the while swearing at the suit. Roughly 10 minutes later, claim A (right next to us) started honking as luggage came out. Someone went and checked. The word came out that it was our flight, and there was a stampede to get the bags. We finally retrieved our bags, and went to wait for Flightline. Endured an extra long ride home, and finally got home around 9 pm. 3 hours after our flight landed in Boston. We all agree that the musical baggage claim was to disguise the fact that it took them an hour to get our bags to us. Too bad that didn’t work.

I hope you enjoyed my trip reports. I’ll try in a bit to link them all together

I really enjoyed your reports! Thanks so much.
Good luck with graduation, good luck with college! Try to do a year abroad! (my standard advice to all young people) :teeth:

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the reports.
I do plan to try for a semester or summer abroad. I think a year would be a little too long for me.

Thanks for your great reports, I really enjoyed them all. Congrats on the graduation.

Any chance that you post your pictures? I love to see WDW vacation pictures.

Thanks for your reports, Heather. You did a great job! Congrats on your graduation, and enjoy college. It's by far the best time of your life!! :flower:

Thanks! I'm glad you all enjoyed the reports. I will try to post pictures this weekend; I'll have to scan some of them since the digitals won't upload to this computer :confused3

I loved your reports as well. Very good job. Congrats on taking the next step in your life. It will be a blast.

Hey, did I read right? Were you able to check your luggage at the resort and have ME handle your luggage even though you had a rental car? That will be great if we can do that!

We were able to do that because they were doing a preliminary testing of that faze of ME. I don't know if you can still do that with a rental car. You should definitely ask though, because it was great.
