Part 12
April 28, 2005 (afternoon)
After the monorail from Epcot to the TTC, we hopped the monorail to the Magic Kingdom (via the resorts due to station work on the express line), then the boat to the Wilderness Lodge. During this hour trip home, Laura and I got a chance to unwind. Living in a blended family isnt easy, and we both needed a break. We dont see everyone nearly this often at home.
Once we got back to the Lodge we changed into swimsuits, filled our mugs with soda and headed for the pool. I had to stay out of the hot tub today. Between the sunburn and heat rash (not contagious), the pool was a much more comfortable temperature. The rest of the crew joined us at the pool, excited because they got to ride in the front of the monorail. I was a tiny bit jealous, but Ive done that before and the break was nice. So it was ok
After a couple hours of swimming we had dinner in Roaring Fork. Mom decided to spend the evening swimming and relaxing. The rest of us returned to Epcot, via the bus. We got our wristbands for EMH as soon as we entered, and since there was no line we walked onto Spaceship Earth. After SE, we hit the bathrooms then staked out a spot for Illuminations. It was about quarter of 8. While we waited we went shopping in shifts, and found a place that sold McFlurries. In true form, we got in the line that took twice as long as the line on the other side of the same place. Typical. When we finally got back to our spot it was 8:35. We settled in and got ready for the show. Illuminations is awesome. Until Wishes came along, it was my favorite of the night shows. Even now, I still really like it.
After Illuminations, we made a beeline for Test Track. Fast pass was operating, so we grabbed fast passes on our way into the stand by line. It was while we were in line that I realized that the mysterious text messages I had been getting over the past day were from my buddy Ricky, a friend who graduated last year from my high school, who I had thought was already in the air force. A friend whose cell phone number I didnt have, and therefore hadnt talked to since September since I thought he was long gone. Turns out hes not leaving until August. I cant tell you how much those text messages improved my day. Anyway. We rode Test Track. This ride is awesome in the dark. It was on this trip that we realized where the picture is taken on the ride. This came in handy on our next ride.
After our ride we hit the bathrooms, then it was time for our Test Track fast pass. Boy were we glad to have those. It might have been evening EMH, but the standby line was 45 minutes long. We got on the ride and had a great time, although that heat test sure did hurt the sunburn. When we got to the place right before they take the pictures the three of us girls assumed our positions. I was seated behind my 6 foot tall stepdad. With shoes Im 53, so I already knew I wouldnt be visible in the picture. I gave my stepdad moose ears. My sister and stepsister both made weird poses. Stepdad had no clue what we had done until he saw the picture. We had at least 20 people staring at the screen laughing. With that we decided to head back to the lodge. Got on the bus, stood the whole way, and were back in the room before 11. Didnt set a wake up call this time; we didnt have any plans in the morning, because Grammy and Grampa would be arriving around lunch
