I have only been to WDW 2 times. Everytime I have gone it has rained a little each day of course but I have never been during a storm. My question is if it storms pretty badly do they close down any of the rides? We are will arrive at WDW on Saturday (9/17) and I am a little concerned about the rain that can result from Hurricane Ophelia. Any advice?

They do close down Test Track at Epcot. DW was stuck in there for awhile a few weeks ago.

:paw: We've managed to catch a few storms! Indoor rides are safe but any ride that is outside or a portion of it is outside will be closed down until it's safe to start again. It has to be unsafe though not just a spot or 2 of rain.

I consider myself a vacation storm curse in the flesh. ;)

We always get LOTS of storms - long, drawn out, bad storms. I swear we bring them with us. :umbrella: ;)

My best advice is this - if the wind starts picking up and the sky starts looking dark, head for an area that has alot of indoor places close together. In MK, one of the best places to be is Main Street, because you can just float from one shop to the next without going outside.

In Epcot, being near World Showcase is good.

In AK, well, you're almost on your own here. Try for It's Tough to be a Bug or go to Pizzafari and take refuge there.

In MGM, you're pretty safe anywhere, as most things are under cover.

The only rides that I can definitely recall closing are Dumbo, Aladdin, Test Track, Chester & Hester's whole area (which if we were lucky, they'd never reopen ;) ), Kali, Splash - off the top of my head.

Don't worry WDW can be done in a storm, I'm living breathing proof. But it's a little uncomfortable when you're feet are squishing in the puddles. Wear waterproof shoes. :teeth:

Rain ponchos will be your best friend. We were there in June and it rained alot, we managed to do what we wanted to. The water parks close down if it gets stormy, so I would watch the weather closely before deciding to visit on of them. It is a real pain trying to leave the waterparks when they close them down. Don't worry, you will have a great time. :cool1:

I don't know about always, or if there was some technical problem, but during a downpour last weekend Tomorrowland Transit Authority was not operating (although with the rain coming pretty much straight down, standing directly under the track was a pretty good place to be :))

Yes, good advice all of the above. They closed splash mountain once for over 2 hours, tornado watch in area (clouds had a hint of green)and nasty storms...lots of lightening, needless to say we did not make SM that trip...stormed stayed all night. But it does happen from time to time.

We were there Aug 28-Sept 3. When we were at BB and TL both were shut down we had been there for about 4 hours so just left. We were watching LIghts, Motors, Action. They started the show but stopped it for a while due to electrical activity in the area. We never did get rain. When it rained-it poured. I found that if it rained about 2pm it didn't last too long but if it was around 4pm it lasted for about an hour.(we were usually back at the room getting ready for dinner at that time)

I don't know what was shut down becuse we just rode Buzz Lightyear about 5 times in a row and did some shopping. No need to worry about Ophelia in Florida, it has made it's way up here to bother us. She could be headed for SC/NC coast. We are keeping a close eye on her because we are in Myrtle Beach about a block off the ocean.

I'm sad. :guilty: We are leaving in 13 days. I just went to find our Disney World ponchos from previous trips so I can go ahead and pack them and not forget them. Well, guess what? I can't find them anywhere! Bummer! I guess we'll have to buy the cheapy ones from the stores or buy new ones when we're down there.
