Hi everyone, we are planning a trip to Orlando from December 28th to January 8th. From all my research it appears that Disney has their busiest week from Christmas to New Years Day. January is listed as having low attendance. Do the crowds tend to drop off immediately after New Year's Day? I also noted that the Marathon is on January 6th and 7th in 2007 - does this impact the number of people?

No, the crowds do NOT drop off right after New Years Day. Although the parks won't be as packed as the Christmas weeks, they still remain quite crowded the first week of January. We found this out the hard way this year from January 1 thru 8. If the marathon affected the crowd levels it was hard to tell, as the whole week was crowded anyhow. I believe the crowd level actually drops right after marathon weekend.

We also were there this past January 1-7 (Sunday was Jan 1st, Monday was the observed holiday) and the crowds seemed to really die down on Wednesday. Wednesday thru Friday crowds were fairly low and really manageable. Saturday was a little busier again. That said, even on the days that were crowded, we used Fast Pass and never waited longer than 20 minutes.

Hope this helps!

We went from January 8 to January 14 this year and it was great! The marathon was from Friday to Sunday (which was the 8th), so we arrived the last day of it. That Sunday we went to MGM and it did seem a little crowded for January, but it wasn't that bad. As the week went on it got less and less crowded. I think maybe just the first week in January is probably crowded since a lot of schools don't go back right after New Years.

Then you obviously weren't at AK or MGM Wednesday or Thursday!
