Parks and major health outbreaks

Hi all,

To start with - not trying to cause panic or rumors.

What has Disney historically done when there is a major health outbreak? Do the parks and rides get extra scrubbing? Fever checks? Nothing at all? Closures?

I'm sure many of us with upcoming trips are seeing the news about the coronavirus and are perhaps starting to wonder if we should be concerned.

I don't recall in all my trips them ever taking any unusual measures due to any kind of disease outbreaks. I would assume if there was something significant that happened with the Coronavirus, they'd do something but it's nothing that is giving me any concern at the moment.

They've closed Disneyland Shanghai but that is because it is close to the epicenter to the Coronavirus outbreak. With basically nothing (outside of a case here or there) in the US I don't see they doing anything different. The common flu is a much bigger threat and has killed over 8,200 in the USA alone this season, but no one seems to notice that.

They are going to raise prices of course and tell people they are trying to discourage the crowds from coming.

Totally agree with you on the your point about the flu. Do you know if Disney does more cleaning during flu season? I know it's inevitable with so many people touching rides and in restaurants that germs will spread, I'm just curious if extra precautions are taken.

Doubt they do anything, they barely empty the trash cans anymore.

They don't really clean things that people touch with the exception of hand rails and stuff that is exposed when they do the nightly powerwashing. I doubt they wipe down ride vehicles and lap bars/handles. Restaurants get cleaned per health department regulations as do bathrooms. They don't do anything above and beyond.

As of now, Tokyo Disneyland remains open, but they have suspended face character meet and greets.

They put out bug repellant for guest use during zika. That's all I can think of.

They aren't going to screen guests coming in for illness. That is insane.

I have to imagine they don't do anything super special, they aren't a medical clinic where they are dealing with a high volume of sick people. I think it would be up to the individual and if someone is highly concerned then carrying some Purell might be warranted for them. Just some basic common sense I think it all that is really warranted for most people. If someone has a compromised immune system and libel to get sick easier than average person then they would just be as cautious as normal I would think. (Not a Dr. but did stay at a Disney Deluxe Resort before so I'm a professional, lol)
