I will be staying @ OKW for a week this month. I plan on renting a car.

Will I be able to park at the resorts and parks for free or is there a fee?

What is the best way to get around? Should I drive directly to the parks or is it better to park in a certain area and use Disney's transportation.

Thanks

You can park for free at the parks using your OKW parking pass they issue you when you arrive. We did not use the WDW transportation because we have 2 small DD's and use a stroller which is difficult to get on and off the bus. Plus with 2 sleeping at the end of a long night and 1 older one a little cranky and 2 tired parents makes for a long ride home on the WDW transportation system!!!!!!!!

We always rent a car and drive everywhere .. except .. the MK. We tend to take the Disney transportation for this. To get to the MK, you have to park at the ticket and transportation center and then take either the monorail or boat from there to the MK. It's just easier to hop on the bus, which takes you directly to the park.

Parking at all parks is free with the pass the front desk will give you.

No charge for parking at OKW. If you are a DVC member, there isn't any charge for using the valet parking at BWV or VWL. If you go to any other resort that offers valet parking (such as the Poly, GF, Contemporary) you will be charged a $6. fee (per day) if you wish to use the valet services. All resorts have free guests parking lots.

Enjoy!

When you checkin at OKW, they will give you a white parking pass that should be good around the resort. The decision on driving or using DVC transportation varies based on the makeup of your party (e.g. all adults, infants, young children). We like to use the Disney transportation, but it's just my wife and me. If you have strollers and alot of other paraphernalia, then driving may be better. We stay at Boardwalk and just take the boat or walk to Epcot, etc. or take the bus from out front for other stops. If we're going to stay until a park closes, then we usually drive, as the crowd at closing sometimes makes waits long for the DVC transportation.

We usually drive, but also will take Disney transportation while park hopping. For example, we might go to Epcot in the morning, then around noon walk or boat over to MGM for the afternoon, finally return to Epcot for the evening and then take our car back from there. We find that easier than getting back to the car to drive to MGM, etc.

As others have said, take the bus if you're going to MK. If you drive and have to go through the TTC, it will probably take longer than taking the bus.

If going to AK, definitely drive. The busses make too many stops enroute and the walk from the bus stop to the park entrance is not a whole lot quicker than taking the parking lot tram from your car.

Note driving works best when you stay at OKW because your car is right out in front. When we stay at BWV or VWL we tend to take Disney transportation more often. For example, at VWL take the boat to MK. At BWV it's an easy walk to either Epcot of MGM.

We use a car when going out to eat and to be certain we get to shows on time. My daughter was almost late for a Cirque Du Soleil
show because she relied on the bus system. We also prefer driving to the water parks because we can get there early and leave to return for the room for a break whenever we want.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip!
