Parking at Poly to get kona coffee and then to MK -- will I get towed?

My DH, coffee snob that he is, likes to get a coffee from the kona coffee bar in the Poly. In the past, we have kept our car parked in the lot at the Poly and have gone to the MK (we are always staying at a different on-site resort). This year we are going to be at All-Star Sports and had planned on doing the same thing, but I have heard a rumor that, upon entering the Poly, I will be given a 3 hour parking permit and will have my car towed after that time. Is this true? Has anyone actually been towed?

People have seen cars being towed. I think as you pull in to the resort you will see a sign stating the policy.

Will you get towed? I'm not sure I would want to roll those dice.

You can certainly park in the MK lot for free since you are a guest at the AllStars, and then just walk over from the ticket and transportation center to the Poly to get that Kona Coffee fix with no worries about the car. Or, you could take the bus to the MK, then ride the resort monorail back around to the Poly for the coffee.

We'll be checking in on Thursday at the Poly and we'll have a car. I hope all the good parking spaces won't be taken by people not staying at the resort!!

Assuming you want to drive, here's what I'd recommend:

Drive to the TTC - as LKS says, it's free for on site guests. Take the resort monorail from the TTC to the Poly. It's a very short ride as the Poly is the first stop. The Kona coffee stand is on the monorail level. Your DH can get his coffee very quickly and then you can board the next monorail for the MK!

Last time I was at the Poly, Several cars were towed.

As a guest of the Poly- it is incredibly painful to go out for the day and try to come back "home" only to find the lot filled by people who are trying to take advantage of their parking lot, without paying for that priveledge.

The walk from TTC to the Polynesian is very short (about 5 min) and very enjoyable -- unless you have mobility issues there is no need to take the monorail (unless you want to!).

I park all the time in the POLY when going to MK. This time we got to the gate at 9:30 and said we were eating at the character buffet, the guy gave us a pass good till 12:30 in the afternoon. We parked in the back near the construction gates and we stayed at MK until 12:30 in the morning, came back to our car and it was there.

As someone that stays at BWV very often, I can certainly relate.

I could see if you were actually having a sit-down meal and then just wanted to hop on the monorail to MK for a short time, rather than having to re-park...

However I am also a frequent visitor to BWV and we pretty much gave up on trying to self-park due to the lack of free spaces, so we end up usinf valet.

Personally I wouldn't waist my vacation time worrying about "if" my car is towed, I would park at TTC and forget about it. It is such a short walk.

With my luck it would be towed

Sorry but that is not WDW policy. We always stay on site and we always get the 3hr perking pass when visiting another resort.


The MK resort parking lots are not overflow or alternative parking for MK. I know I would be very upset if I was paying top dollar for a deluxe resort and couldn't park at the resort because the parking lot was being used by those not staying at the resort.

Sha_lyn is right. Yes you CAN park at a resort other than your own but only for the 3 hour time period. When we go to another resort for dinner we generally valet park. That way they can put the car wherever they want to, it doesn't matter to us where they park it since they go and retrieve it for you, and then we aren't taking up any of the prime spaces for those staying at the resort. I understand it's frustrating to not be able to find a decent parking space at your own resort but it happens everywhere and many times it's just because there are that many resort guests staying there at that time and those who legitimately can park for 3 hours if they are dining there.

We use valet frequently and that would save the tow hassle.

But my recommendation is this -- pull up and tell the valet at Poly that you're just running in for coffee. They'll usually let you leave the car at the valet for 15 minutes or so, no charge. Then move your car to TTC and take the monorail or boat. Gets you your coffee quickly and your car is safe.

Please, please, please.... Do not park at the Poly (or any resort that you are not staying) to go into a theme park. I have stayed at the Poly many times, and I get very frustrated having to drive around looking for a spot, only to find one in the back row. It is just not considerate to the guests paying the dollars to stay there.

That being said, I do find it legitimate to park there if you are patronizing the resort in some way, whether shoping, eating, or having coffee. After that business is complete, it would be good form to remove your car from the lot.

I forgot to put the parking paper on my dashboard when we checked into the Poly last week. In the morning, I had a ruh-roh moment when I remembered - went to check the car and it was still there.

Maybe they let me slide because I had old CR and YC parking papers still on the dashboard, from earlier in the week.

We had dinner at the Kona on August 12, and were given a three hour permit and were instructed to leave it on the dashboard. I was talking to a friend who works at the Polynesian, and they had towed about a dozen cars earlier in the week who had overstayed their three hour welcome.

I wouldn't want to ruin a great day that way.
