Parking at parks? Discounts? Military? Aaa? Staying off site

We are staying offsite for the first time. Right near the Disney.
We have yet to get a car rental. We are flying in.
I see parking is $17 per day.
Is there any AAA discounts? I was told it might be free and better parking if you are AAA. I was also told it would be cheaper to get a AAA membership (seeing as I don't have one) and the Disney discount would pay for the membership. I can't find it anywhere though.
Is there military discounts on parking? We won't be staying at Shades of Green, we are staying outside the park.

Any advice for staying off site and driving around?

I don't think aaa is doing the diamond parking pass anymore. That got you closer parking, not free. I believe the contract between aaa and WDW hasn't been renewed.
The only way to get free parking is to either stay on-site or have an AP. The thing to keep in mind is that you pay to park just once a day. If you hop to another park, hold onto the receipt from the first park. That way you pay just once.

Darn! That's why I can't find it!
Staying off site is new to us!
