How does parking work? Is there an attendant collecting payment as you park or is it added to your bill at checkout?

When you enter they ask your name and if you are staying at the hotel. When you leave you hand them your room key and they add it to your bill.

Any you just get billed per night. You can check in and park as early as you want on arrival day and leave as late as you want on departure day...so for example if you were just stying one night you actually get two full days of parking but are only charged for the one night of parking. Your car does not need to leave at checkout time, you just gotta be out of the room.

They add it to your bill when you check in and tell them you have a car. It shows up as a line item for each night and appears on the bill you get the morning you depart.

Iirc, they will also ask for your licence plate number. If you don’t give it to them, it’s likely your vehicle will be towed. So if it’s a rental, make sure you take note of it before you leave the vehicle.

Is this new? I have never been asked for my license plate number before. Just how many vehicles on the reservation.

Nope, not new. We are always asked also. There is a specific paper they make you sign at check in where you write down your make, model and plate number. It's been this way for years. We are locals who always drive our own car when staying onsite. They also ask when you pull up at the guard gate and give you a paper to leave in the windshield.

I have also never been asked for my license plate number- at least not at any of my stays in the last year and I don't recall it happening before that either.

If you do online check-in it will ask you about parking during that process and you can add it there as well.

When we stayed at the DLH in December we were not given the paper at the guard kiosk like in the past. I remember wondering if this was a mistake and not wanting to have the car towed or anything so I looked at other cars in the lot and no one else had one either. Maybe it was a temporary change?

I have never even been given a paper. We get our stuff down. DH parks. I check in. They ask if we have a vehicle and that is it. That is at both DLH and PP.

We stay primarily at GCH. Maybe its different there? Last stay was July 2021 and I definitely had to fill on the form with our license plate number and they gave us an Orange card to place in the dash.

I hand the valet the keys and a 5-spot. When I leave, the same. The fee shows up on my bill.

I have never had to give the car's license plate or fill out anything at either DLH or GCH. Like Whoever, I hand the Valet the keys and a $5. When I leave during the trip, hand the valet a $5, he gives me my keys, I put my room key in the slot at the gate, the gate opens and I drive thru, reentering, same thing, and hop out, hand the valet the keys and a $5.

Even places like Residence inn, I don't give a plate, they just give me a tag to put in the window.

When you valet park, they don't give you the paper to fill out. Only when you use the self parking.

Interesting. I know they didn't when valet hadn't returned as I was in charge of checking in and my daughter unloaded and parked the car. I didn't fill anything out then, at either hotel. Maybe things changed.

If you drop everything off at the front entrance then the staff there, who are often helping you unpack the car and put your luggage on a trolley, will generally take note of your licence plate number and let security staff know that vehicle is authorised to park there. Can’t speak to any changes during the pandemic but that’s always been the way it is for as long as I can remember and not just at DLH, anywhere with a restricted parking lot. They need to know the vehicles parking there are allowed to park there whether you tell them or they take note of it themselves. It would be the worst kept secret in the Disney Universe if you could just park at DLH and go straight to the parks without the hotel staff been aware of it.

The reason this isn't a best kept secret is not that it isn't possible- it's that there is a monetary deterrent from doing so. I'm not sure hotel parking is officially restricted to hotel guests as there are "Standard Rates" for parking if you are not a hotel guest. Standard Rates for Self-Parking at the hotels are $35/hr for the first hour plus $10/hr after that to a max of $75 (Valet is more). So if you want to park in the hotel lots for $75 per day I'm pretty sure Disney will take your money. This is all controlled upon EXIT. If you don't have a hotel room key with parking added or a restaurant validation they will charge you these rates. So I actually don't think they care about your license plate at this point.

That said, they do ask at the entrance guard shack what your reason for visiting is too-I don't know what they would say or do if you told them you were just gonna park for the day (I'm sure you could say something to get past this point without a reservation if you wanted). I often then go directly to self park on the right, unload our stuff and walk in from there so definitely no opportunity for them to note your plate during unload etc. I think they would only do this for valet anyway. They used to give you a paper for the dash at the guard shack but that didn't happen the last time we stayed at DLH in December (the CM at the guard shack did verify that we had a reservation) and other cars didn't have them either. I still don't recall having to give my license plate info on any stay in the last few years.

How is valet parking at DLH? Is it pretty quick and easy to get your car when you need it? Does anyone know the current cost?

Last time we did self parking and the car felt like it was 100 miles away from the entrance ever time we had to go out to it.

Since you use your own car, you've never had to do the "omg it's a rental I have no idea" thing, so you don't know that hotels then usually tell you it's not needed.

It’s pretty quick. It costs $50/night now.
