Park Vue Inn & Candy Cane Inn - Any recent stays?

Hello Disneyland folks!

Looking at planning a two night stay for two adults in the spring of 2017. Just visiting Disneyland, not California Adventure. Likely spending two days in the park. Driving from and back to San Diego. Have an interest in checking out Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotel (Trader Sams!), but willing to walk to both.

The Candy Cane Inn and the Park Vue Inn are my top two choices right now. They seem very similar.

Free parking, free breakfast, close to the parks. Similar reviews, similar prices, similar amenities (fridge, laundry, wifi).

Park Vue has the edge for me because Coldstone Creamery is nearby, as are McDonald's & Denny's (which my husband will really like, but me not so much). They also have a patio for viewing the fireworks, and appear to serve better breakfast food (hot waffles and eggs vs. pastries and cereal at CCI). Some rooms also have a microwave- which is even better. It is also literally across the street from the Disneyland Park.

I know CCI has a shuttle, but PV is closer to the park in distance- and quite honestly after our recent first-time WDW experience I am somewhat eager to avoid public transit around the park.

Hoping there are some people here who have recent stay experience. I know CCI is a beloved institution in the area, but I would like an accurate idea of which place will be best for us. Quiet rooms are also a priority if possible. Other comparisons I have found are from very outdated stays, or the feedback was provided by those who have only stayed at the CCI.

I stayed at the PVI in July for the third time on the top floor at the back of the property. It was very quiet. I have also stayed at CCI several times. The two biggest differences for me are the walk (PVI much closer), and the beds (PVI more comfortable with nicer bedding). I would pick PVI first but wouldn't hesitate to choose CCI if that wasn't available.

Bumping this thread as I am also deciding between the same two properties. For my stay, Candy Cane Inn is about 20.00 more per night than Park Vue. I like the looks of the grounds at Candy Cane better (the pool area seems nice), but I'm wondering if the 20.00 per night savings and the location of Park Vue would make that a better choice? My kids would also find the bunk bed at Park Vue to be a fun novelty. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

For a $20 difference, I'd go with PVI. Their breakfast, beds, bedding and distance are better. Honestly it just depends on whether you plan to spend time at the hotel or not. CCI has a lot of staff doing maintenance and landscaping during the day. PVI's pool area also has landscaping around it, but it is a just a rectangle.

CCI has very small rooms for a family and is quite noisy. The pool and spa are not used much so you can generally be in there on your own! Breakfast is a bit meh and beds and furnishings not great. The shuttle is a real bonus though. Have not stayed at PVI sorry.

We stayed at CCI for the first time in July after wanting to for many, many years. We didn't stay there this past weekend and are booked in a different hotel for February. We just didn't find it so amazing. The flowers on the grounds were nice and we did use the shuttle, but would prefer to stay closer in a more comfortable bed.

I would not recommend anyone stay at the Candy Cane Inn. I had an awful stay there earlier this year. But I had a very pleasant stay at the Park Vue Inn a while back. You cannot beat the walk from the PVI. Its closer to Disneyland than any of Disney's Hotels. The free breakfast and parking are nice as well.
