Park transportation or hire a car?

We are travelling to POFQ Aug 24 - Aug 31. I am thinking about hiring a car and not relying on Disney transport - we have 3 early morning breakfasts booked and 2 children 5 and 8. What would you all suggest from past experiences ?

We stayed there in May and had no problems with WDW transportation. I wouldn't bother renting a car. At the end of the night, the busses were full, so we'd usually be slow leaving park and let the crowds thin out. We enjoyed taking the ferry boats to DTD. We didn't do any early morning breakfasts, so I can't speak about that part of your question.

We have done both and don't prefer one to the other. A car would be convenient for the early breakfasts or if you plan to eat offsite, shop etc but the bus system is fairly efficient. The only park that I would definitely use the bus for is MK even if you do rent. If you have a car you won't need to wait for ME and your luggage...ME also picks you up for your return flight home way too early for my liking.

I would take the disney transportation if you are just going to stay on property. Just budget a little more time. I would only rent a car if you are planning to dine off-property or going to the other parks alot.
Have fun.

WDW buses are great. POFQ also gives you the advantage of a great boat ride to DTD!

If your not planning to go offsite I would definitely use the disney transportation. We stayed French Quarter in Feb and love the dis transport.
There are some times that is can be busy, but as a whole we love it. My kids (4 7 9) dont mind the bus at all, they kind of like it.

There are special early "Character Breakfast" buses that will get you to your breakfasts, no matter what time. (I assume they are character breakfasts?)
You just need to ask the driver where they are going, I think some might say Magic Kingdom Character Breakfast, etc, but don't quote me on that. Once the parks are open you have to take regular buses to the park (or nearest park, if it's at a resort).

Even if you had to take a taxi once or twice to get to a breakfast, I'm sure it would still be cheaper than renting a car.

Most definetly Disney transportation. Disney transportation comes frequently anfd is very comftorable.

We stay at POFQ and we just use Disney transportation. When we go to the HDDR at Fort Wilderness, we get bell services to call us a cab. Approx $13 tip incl. We also took a cab to Wilderness lodge and one to the Contempary. We never spent more than $50 total in cab fare for 11 days. We didn't really need to take the cab, but sometimes it is nicer and quicker to get there.

We have been wondering the same thing for our trip! We have a ressie at the poly at 7:30 am...and a few other early ones. So I am really stuck on what to do as well! We wouldn't mind getting off property for a day to go shopping or to the beach...

Thanks for all the info. I think we will go ahead and use part transportation. For our early morning reservations if the buses are running late we will just get a cab - we should have enough time for that. We can use the money we save on car hire for a dinner at WCC!
