Park Reservation Work Around for eventual AP?

Does anyone know if the proposed work-around for park reservations will work? I make a regular package reservation with a $200 deposit and reserve parks. Then when APs go back on sale, I buy the AP, link it in MDE, then cancel the cash package with tickets, and my Park Reservations should remain?

I ask because we have multiple trips planned in 2021 - Feb, Apr, Sep/Oct, and Thanksgiving. I don’t want to buy tickets for each trip as that’s ridiculously expensive, but I also don’t want to risk not getting park reservations. Gold APs for 2021 are not yet available.

I have an option to buy FL Resident Gold APs. I just don't know if I can activate them with my DVC membership or not.

I know that I was able to use an 8-day park hopper to book 7 Park Passes on Monday. I decided to switch tickets to old, non-expiring 7-day park passes that I have and I reassigned the 8-day tickets to a placeholder in MDE. The Park Passes have not disappeared from MDE and it has been 6 days since I made the switch.

You can upgrade individual tickets at any time to AP(once available again at least) so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well, you technically could only have to pay a $200 deposit for two of those trips (Feb/Apr), so not really expensive, assuming your Sep/Oct trip would start after Sep 26. Even if it starts before, what's another $200 deposit? Make the reservations and deposits, then cancel them when you can purchase an AP. You don't have to pay another dime on them until 30 days before the trip is to begin.

Like your question though...whether that actually works or not is another question.

DVC doesn't give Florida resident discounts so you’d have to have something to prove it....there is a list like utility bill, etc.

How does the system know which ticket media was used to book the park reservation? We have 2 onsite stays in 2020 and 1 in July 2021. I have an AP Platinum voucher. DH and DS each have a Platinum AP voucher and a 10 flex-date park hopper. This is what we had when I booked park reservations for all 3 trips. Which ticket media was used for my husband and son's reservations? It never asked which we were using. Maybe since these are all onsite stays, it doesn't matter.

I’m facing about the same issue. I’m a new DVC member and am waiting for my points to show up on the website to book a seven day trip next May. I’d like to visit the parks using annual passes which I don’t want to activate until we get there, but of course I need to make park reservations. Will be able to make park reservations with a booked stay? Or should I buy multiple day tickets and just convert them to APs when they go back on sale?

Excellent question and I wish we had a definitive answer. Maybe (and just a guess) the same way the system knows which tickets to use for park entrance.

I had initially worried about this since my daughter ended up with 2 MDE profiles... one had the AP and the other was on the reservation. I quickly assigned her a ticket being held in a dummy profile. Wonderful CM merged the profiles and moved that ticket back to the dummy profile. All the park passes stayed in place. And while I “know” everything will be fine, I still have that tiny kernel of doubt.

When I booked, we had more than one ticket and it didnt ask me to choose.

After, I transferred two tickets to a friend...one from DD and one from her BF...all park passes are still there.

And, my friend was able to use the tickets that day to reserve for her family.

I really think as long as one always has a ticket it isn’t going to cancel. I know FPs never did as I keep an old non expired 10 day ticket on my account for that reason when I was in between getting my new AP.

I am trusting that they put that language in there to try to prevent people doing what I'm doing. I made the reservation, so I'll let you know what happens when I can buy my APs and cancel the reservation.
