Park closed to reservations- any chance more space will be opened up at later time?

Asking for a friend (like I actually am)

Mon Feb 28 Magic Kingdom is currently showing as closed to any new reservations.
Once a park is full, do openings ever occur, as you get closer to the date?

OR- is the only hope of getting in to start the day in another park and hop over to MK after 2pm?

TIA

Yes, it can happen but there is not guarantee it will or, when it will. It seems most likely to happen on Sun, Feb 27th or the actual date of Mon, Feb 28th as people adjust their plans. Disney may or may not release more reservations but I would not count on that happening this close to the date.

The other challenge is that the Park Reservation Calendar is not updated real time meaning what you see there does not reflect actual availability.

Do you already have a reservation at another park for Mon, Feb 28th? If so, to check 'actual' availability at MK you will need to cancel your current reservation which is risky as you risk not getting MK or what you currently have if someone else grabs your released reservations.

My family, and the family we are joining there, all have existing reservations for MK for that day.
There is the possibility that a friend of the family we are joining may try to meet us in MK. So the question was presented to me and I was not sure how to answer.
Thank you! I will pass all this info on to them.

We experienced this back in November when my daughter was trying to book MK and it was full. She kept checking and was able to snag an open reservation. Just keep checking!

I have had this happen a few times and until presidents day weekend never had an issue with it. In the past I have made a reservation then gone to the modify and just clicked modify, then back, then modify again until something popped up. Usually popped up with just a few tries, once or twice it was like 10 minutes of doing that over and over while watching tv. Id say do it 5 minutes straight, if that doesn't work try again another time. If you really need it and it hasn't happened yet, be ready for a long haul of trying over and over like that the night before or morning of. Unfortunately Presidents day weekend this didn't work, not a single park opened up after several such sessions even night before or morning of (was hoping to change one and add on Monday), so as was said before, no guarantees.

Yes, they can hop after 2pm as long as they tap into the park where they reserved first, and the MK has availability to hop (very unlikely it won't).
