Hello,

We are taking our first trip to Paris next month and I was hoping someone could help me with public transportation questions.

We arrive at CDG on a Friday morning in March and just plan to take a taxi to our apartment that we are renting near the Eiffel Tower. We really don't need Metro tickets for that day. Starting on Saturday though we will need public transportation to get around Paris for Saturday through Friday. We are also talking about taking day trips to Disneyland and Versailles by the RER.

What would be the best tickets to buy to get around Paris and those two day trips? It all seems so confusing.

Thanks!!!!

You might be better off just getting some carnets for each of you and paying the round-trip RER fares separately for the trips to DLP and Versailles.

Depends on how much you plan on using the Metro. If you're further out in that area, using the Metro to get to the Champs, or Notre Dame/Louvre or up to Sacre-Couer, you'll really want to use the Metro. The Navigo Découverte might be an option but take note of when you can buy it and when the weekly pass ends considering your itinerary.

Take some time to figure out the zones and what your sightseeing/day-trip plans would involve:

Navigo Découverte run from Monday 5.30 am to Sunday end of service so 01.00 am on the Monday morning

It is the best value for a weeks unlimited travel on the metro/bus/tram and RER within the zones you choose

For zones 1+2 which covers all the metro lines you'd need in Paris is 19,15€ + a 5€ one off fee for setting up the Navigo

A carnet of 10 tickets is 12,70€

Depending on the age of your children they can either travel for free or pay half price - if they are over 10 they pay adult fare

Useful (official) link on the different types of tickets and passes

and for getting to DLP from Paris

If you do go for a Navigo don't forget to bring your photo with you, will save you some time and a few €s a piece :goodvibes

Thanks for the replies!

I was thinking of going with the Navigo for M-F, getting the teenagers the Jeunes weekend card for Sat and Sun and 10pk carnet for my husband and I.

It seems like it would be the best for our family. For the photos I would think the only way to save some money on that would be if I took them myself? Passport photos from home are too big, from what I've read?
