I don’t feel one way or another about Celine Dion but holy cow I was sobbing. There is quite a bit of patriotism, too, for sure.

I'm an Olympic junkie and I loved the opening ceremony. Loved seeing the many athletes from USA and of course Celine!!!! What an experience to have gone down the Seine and have the view of the Eiffel Tower! What an amazing and well deserved time for all of the athletes.

That was the most stunningly creative opening ceremony I can ever remember watching. I'm still trying to figure out why in the world Lady Gaga was there, I like her, but wasn't at all impressed with that performance. The balloon Olympic flame cauldron took my breath away when it started to rise up. Celine was amazing, it had to have been so difficult for her.

Explain why Kelly & Peyton were broadcasting ? We couldn’t get former Olympic athletes?? Cut to Hooda for what reason ?? It did not add to the ceremony at all . I agree I love Lady Gaga but why was she there ?? The inclusion of para athletes in the torch relay was so moving !!! Plus including the athletes as they went along and the athlete over 100 amazing !!! Loved the horse bringing the Olympic flag !

She’s been a very popular singer in France for many years and has several French albums and this was her big comeback since her stiff person syndrome diagnosis. Apparently they asked her last year.

This was a very unusual opening ceremony. Many performers and athletes were not from France. At the end when there were so many French athletes at the Louvre and cauldron site I thought maybe that's why so many Americans/others carried the torch?

Watched the opening start to finish. Loved it. French quirkiness and artistry on full display. Looking forward to watching the events!!

Recorded it and watching now. Loving all the unusual performances! The music of La Marseillaise is very stirring; the lyrics not so much.

I loved the whole opening ceremony from start to finish. I enjoyed the commentary from the main NBC commentators. Don't judge Kelly and Peyton to harshly. I think if they gain more experience, they could be great Olympic coverage commentators in the future.

Rugby!!!! Love 7's. I will be packing for Disney, so I will just have it on all day.

I'm proud that the men's team USA made it to the quarter finals. There was no shame in losing to Australia. USA rugby has a long way to go but I think they have already made new fans of the sport. Hopefully the women go further this tournament than the men did. Hopefully more people go out and support MLR now.

We turned. It on and watched a fair amount of the opening ceremony at work. The boat parade was different. It just took so long. I get they traveled 4 miles, but ugh.

The hot air balloon I believe was a reference to this historic event:
