I liked the gold guy stuff and the rings. I didn’t like the French musical entertainment. Not even the athletes were jamming to it. I liked My Way at the end. I thought the Tom Cruise thing was cute, but I’m not a big fan of his. The LA stage on the beach with a handful of fans was lame.

He was cringeworthy awful. Nobody gives a damn what his five favorite moments were.

At least the twits Tara Lipinski and Johnny Wier kept their yaps shut for the most part.

Yeah, and at least even Johnny was kind of funny sometimes. When Fallon tells a joke, he's the only one who laugh at it!

Wonder what the people in the stadium in Paris were doing when they showed those obviously pre-recorded clips from LA? The idea of people 'gathering' for the next Olympics made sense but not sure what purpose those performing on the beach had to do with the Olympics. Red Hot Chili peppers are mostly a niche band and not really that popular. Most comedians try too hard to be funny every time they speak like they expect everyone to roll on the ground laughing at anything they say. Did J. Fallon only appear for the closing ceremonies, I didn't watch most of the games during the week?

Thought Tara/Johnny did commentary for the Winter Olympics, but they suddenly appear to host the closing ceremonies? Show seemed better organized than the opening ceremonies. What is artististic is always subject to personal opinion, but at least those in the stadium could watch the entire show.

Not a T. Cruise fan, now seems too old for that spy character he plays and always struck me as a one-dimensional actor playing the 'wise guy' role. Seemed like free global advertisement for his movies series......LOL.

A niche band that is not that popular but somehow has been continuously going since the 1980s... 4 Grammys.. 2 albums considered by Rolling Stones to be in the 500 top albums of all time... rock n roll hall of fame... yup not that popular at all.

Their music is not for everyone, and they are aging LOL.... but they are one of the bigger stadium bands of the last few decades

This might be one of the worst takes I've ever seen on the DIS. They've sold 120,000,000 records, been going for over 30 years and are still relevant.

I'm guessing they must have considered pulling together everyone else to join Snoop for some California Love, unless that's gonna happen when the game actually hit LA.

They need permission from Tupac's estate to do the song since it wasn't Snoop originally. The song belongs to Dre and Tupac.

I enjoyed two of the three performances from LA, Billie Eilish just doesn't do anything for me and I feel her music is too slow for that atmosphere. Gwen Stefani would have been good or I'm sure I could think of some others. RHCP is getting old. I'm glad Flea had something on his lower half besides a sock, but I don't know what that yellow thing was. Dre and Snoop we know are old, but still have some ability to work the crowd and get their lines right. I found it a little odd that they played songs from 20-25 years ago. Drop it like it's hot was 2004 and Next Episode was 1999.

It's nutty to call them a niche band. I think that poster may have just used an incorrect term. They are considered one of the best alternative rock bands out there and alternative rock is not a niche market in the least.

What might have been more fitting was Dre and Snoop portion together in the Paris stadium since Snoop was the big commentator for the Olympics. However, given how the athletes surrounded that band playing on the stage it might have been good that they weren't there.

I had to laugh when I read that too. I never in my life thought I would hear RHCP described as a niche band. Try going a day tuned into any rock, pop, alt rock and now classic rock station and NOT hear a Chili Peppers song. It’s impossible. They are a giant part of rock history and born and bred in Cali which is why they were featured.

I didn't saying otherwise. Specific to poster's usage of the word "niche" they are one of the best alternative rock bands and alternative rock isn't niche. It was used as a primary example not a definitive label for that particular band's genre that they have music in. Many bands cross over into other genres or sub genres from pop rock, rap rock, etc rarely are any of those actually niche.

Haven't seen any of the closing ceremonies since we were out with friends last night, but I understand what you're saying about Billie's music not necessarily fitting the occasion. First thing to mind when I think music for LA games is absolutely "California knows how to party". It's absolutely possible there will be a new darling of the US music scene between now and 2028, but I'd lay $$ on hearing some California Love, same way I'd lay my wager on NY State of Mind if the empire state was hosting. I do expect that 2028 will not call upon international artists to perform quite as prominently as Paris did, if at all. Although I could see a red carpet being rolled out specially for Celine if she is healthy and up to perform.

ETA -- Just realized I'd like to lay a side wager down we'll see a creative use of Hotel California threaded into the festivities somewhere.

I have to say, both Flea and Anthony Kiedis look super fit for their age. Though Kiedis does give off a sleazy pornstar vibe. lol. I wish he’d lose the stache.
